Avis Parker
Head of School
Head of School at Epsom, Avis Parker brings over 15 years of experience in Malaysia and 30 years overall in a distinguished academic background. She holds a degree from the University of Swansea, a PGCE from the University of Bristol, an MA from the University of Nottingham, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Education at the University of Aberdeen.
With expertise in teaching History and Geography across various key stages in both the UK and Malaysia, Mrs Parker has also contributed to School Improvement for a major Local Authority in the UK. Her passion for pastoral care and its impact on academic achievement has led her to leadership roles, including Director of Key Stage 4, Assistant and Deputy Headteacher and now the Head of School.
An advocate of Carol Dweck’s growth mindset, Mrs Parker strives to nurture intelligence and resilience in her students, fostering a positive learning environment where they can confidently navigate life’s challenges.

Dominique Perrang
Deputy Headteacher, Curriculum, Performance and Student Outcomes
Mrs Dominique Perrang joined Epsom College Malaysia in 2022 as an Economics and Business teacher. This is her seventh year in Malaysia, having previously taught at Repton, where she guided students who achieved the highest score in the world for A Level Business and the top score in Malaysia for AS Economics and Business. Over her 13 years in education, many of her students have progressed to top universities including NUS, Stanford and LSE. She has previously served as a member of SLT, Head of Department, and Student Services Coordinator, gaining extensive leadership experience in curriculum development, staff mentoring, and student achievement.
Mrs Perrang holds an Honours and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Johannesburg, with her Master’s dissertation focusing on Blended learning leadership and support.
She has served as a Lead Teacher in gamification and as a Lead Teacher and Presenter for the national Ecubed project, cultivating employability and entrepreneurship education. Mrs Perrang also brings extensive experience in intervention strategies, from telematics and district-level initiatives to her current role as Deputy Headteacher, where she leads data-driven systems for monitoring progress, coordinating timely interventions, and designing personalised academic pathways. At Epsom, she has reignited WSC and Round Square and spearheaded the first FOBISIA student-led AI conference, reflecting her commitment to holistic education and enrichment.

Kevin Hill was educated as a child in England. As a B.A. English Literature graduate from Newcastle, he moved to China to experience the wider world and began his teaching career as an early years and adult English educator. Discovering a love for teaching during this time, he remained in China teaching for 8 years on China’s east coast. He then returned to Exeter to gain his PGCE and after continuing his teaching practice in England in Essex and Devon he moved to South Korea.
After 8 years in Korea where he honed his skills in teaching senior school English and developing boarding house experiences, he has moved to Malaysia, his first time to the country, with his wife and two daughters.
His lessons are characteristically creative, fun and memorable. He hopes to continue to inspire all students from beginner to higher level to find a love for English and world literature.

Sam Prestidge
Head of Sixth Form
Sam was primarily educated in the UK, where he obtained a first class honours degree in Business Economics from the University of Exeter and a PGDE in Geography from Bath Spa University. He also holds a Masters of Science in Environmental Management from the University of Hong Kong. In addition to teaching GCSE and A Level Geography, Sam also teaches A-Level Economics and is a great believer in cross curricular collaboration. He uses his passion for the outdoors and the environment to inspire real world application in the classroom, delving into the specialist areas of sustainable development and investment, aligned to his prior career in finance.

Sam joined Epsom in January 2025 as Head of Academic PE and has moved across to the Head of KS3 role this year. Sam holds a 1st class degree in Sport and Exercise Science and completed his teacher training at the University of Exeter. He has vast expierience teaching and leading practical and classroom PE in UK independent boarding schools. Sam is passionate about sport, leading cricket and badminton since arriving at Epsom. He believes in establishing strong relationships and creating meaningful opportunities and challenges for his pupils.

Assistant Headteacher, Curriculum
Olivia has returned to Epsom College Malaysia, having taught here during 2018-2020. She left Malaysia to teach at Epsom College in the UK, where she taught Mathematics and Further Mathematics A Level and iGCSE. Olivia was educated in the UK; she has a First Class Honours degree and a PGCE in Mathematics from University College London. Olivia cares deeply not only about the mathematical success of her students, but also their general wellbeing and happiness. To maintain her own wellbeing, Olivia represents a Gaelic football team and an Australian football team in KL. She is a lover of all sports and an advocate in particular for girls’ participation in sports.

Before joining Epsom, Daniel spent 12 years in South Korea, more specifically on Jeju Island teaching at a British International School. Helen Miller
Deputy Head of Boarding, HMM Crawfurd
Helen Miller is Housemistress at Epsom College Malaysia, where she also teaches Physical Education, coordinates educational visits, and serves as Deputy Head of Boarding. She brings extensive experience from over 20 years in the UK independent school sector, followed by an international post at Rugby School Thailand, before joining Epsom in 2022.
Through her teaching and leadership, Helen inspires students to embrace challenge and grow with confidence. She is highly supportive of learning outside of the classroom, leading a wide range of trips and co-curricular opportunities that foster independence, resilience, and a spirit of adventure. With a strong passion for pastoral care, she ensures that boarding life is both nurturing and structured, helping students to balance their academic, social, and personal development within a supportive and inclusive environment
Masako Takamiya
Carr Assistant Housemistress
Mrs Takamiya is our Assistant Housemistress of Rosebery House where she builds very strong and positive relationships with her students. She is also integral to the strong links that we are able to build with our Japanese families in her role as Japanse Liaison Officer. Masako believes strongly in education and the importance of a holistic approach. She is an excellent role model and ambassador for our school in all that she does. Masako is a qualified Yoga instructor and the sessions that she runs are equally popular among our staff and students.
Dean Jones
Granville Housemaster
Dean Jones is the Housemaster for Granville House and teaches English as an Additional Language to pupils in Epsom College in Malaysia.
Dean has enjoyed a rich and varied career and has worked in countries globally – notably China and Japan. One of his more prominent roles was deputy managing director for a large German multinational company with a chain of English language teaching schools.
In addition to an honours degree in Applied Physics, Mr Jones has an iPGCE from the University of Nottingham and a master’s degree in education management from the University of Surrey. Formerly an IELTS examiner, Dean was a member of the Chartered Management Institute and chaired English UK South West, a subsidiary of the organisation that is responsible for the accreditation of English as an Additional Language teaching in the United Kingdom.
Mr Jones speaks basic Chinese and enjoys golf and playing the piano.
Matthew Murray
Granville Assistant Housemaster
Matt Murray joined as the Assistant Housemaster for Granville House at Epsom College Malaysia, where he also teaches Physical Education and contributes to the school’s co-curricular sports programme. He brings with him a passion for developing well-rounded students who thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Matt grew up in the United States and holds a degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Alabama as well as a U.S. Teaching Credential in both K–12 Physical Education and Secondary English. He has previously served as a Physical Education Teacher, Athletics Director, and Curriculum Coordinator throughout various international schools in S.E. Asia, overseeing fixtures, tournaments, and inter-school sports. His coaching experience spans basketball, volleyball, track & field, baseball, and badminton, with notable achievement including leading teams to national championships in Thailand. His teaching philosophy resembles a constructivist approach, encouraging pupils to take ownership of their learning while building resilience, teamwork, and integrity, skills he feels are essential for students to succeed at the next stage of their educational and professional journeys.
Matthew Richardson

Matt Richardson is an experienced teacher who joined our Science department at Epsom in 2022. After graduating with an M.Sc, Matt had planned to work in the NHS, but a volunteer opportunity abroad led him to discover that his career lies within Education. Matt has a PGCE in Secondary Science and has taught students from many diverse backgrounds and abilities in the UK, South Korea, Thailand and Cambodia.
Matt strives to create meaningful learning experiences for his pupils that are characterized by enquiry and investigation of the world through questioning, real world examples and practical investigations. He hopes that when his students leave school they are equipped with the necessary skills to understand and apply science in their lives and to fulfill their potential. Outside the classroom, Matt enjoys long distance cycling, martial arts, chess and travelling.

Azmi is a passionate music educator with extensive experience teaching various age groups. During his studies, he performed with prestigious orchestras, including the MPYO, NYSO, NSO, and KLPAC Wind Orchestra. His love for teaching stems from the joy of witnessing his students’ growth and progress. Throughout his career, Azmi has been dedicated to helping students achieve their full potential, believing that music enriches lives both socially, culturally, and spiritually. He views music as a powerful medium for personal expression and a source of beauty that can positively impact individuals and communities. Azmi holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance and a Master’s Degree in Music Education.

Having graduated from King’s College London with First Class Honours, Leo Baloyo was determined to follow in the footsteps of his father and take up a career in teaching and make a difference to young people’s lives. Leo teaches A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics and enjoys taking his teaching beyond the classroom via Mathematics clubs and enrichment activities that contribute to preparing students for the STEP paper that is required by some of the more elite universities. Leo believes in the power of education and his father, an inspirational and successful teacher is his role model.

Helen Miller is joining Epsom College Malaysia from Rugby School, Thailand as the Housemistress of Crawford House. She is moving with her family, husband Guthrie and three children aged 14, 12 and 8. With over twenty years experience working in British Independent schools, she has lots of passion and enthusiasm to support students wellbeing as they navigate senior school. In her free time she enjoys all sports, cooking with her family and travelling.

Emily grew up and was educated in South Wales, following which she studied for a BA(Ed) in PE and Geography at the University of Exeter. Following completion of her degree she began her journey into boarding and worked at Dauntsey’s School in England. Emily’s husband is Australian and the two of them spent some time working and living in Country Victoria. A return back to the UK saw Emily continue in boarding with positions at Downe House and Sherborne Girls. More recently, Emily has held a position as a Housemistress at an international school in South Korea which gave her vital experience before becoming the HMM of Rosebery House. Not only does Emily have a passion for pastoral care but also sport, crafts and travelling with her family.

Hannah joined the Epsom community in January 2025 as Teacher of Biology and HMM of Wilson House. With a range of experiences across the sciences in both state and private education in the UK, Hannah has experience of GCSE, A Level, BTEC and IB Biology. She initially qualified with a 1st class degree in Physiotherapy, but soon realised her passion for teaching. She later completed her teacher training at the University of Exeter and has not looked back. In the classroom, Hannah’s focus is on providing a holistic education, with strong relationships and a good class atmosphere at the forefront of all lesson. Outside of the classroom, Hannah enjoys playing hockey and going to the gym.

Ms Vasantha Ponnen is an experienced teacher and Certified trainer with a solid educational background, holding Master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Education. With over 16 years of teaching experience, she has successfully implemented pedagogical best practices in schools, enriching her students’ learning experiences.
As a passionate teacher, Vasantha firmly believes in holistic learning and student empowerment. She enthusiastically encourages her students, focusing on stimulating critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Harry Hughes
Forest Housemaster
Harry Hughes proudly hails from East London, UK, and joins Epsom College in Malaysia this year as a teacher of History and Politics. He studied History at the University of St Andrews, specialising in Islamic and Middle Eastern History, and completed his PGCE at the University of Buckingham.
Harry has spent the past six years teaching in the independent sector in London, including two years as a Boys’ Head of House, during which he earned a Pastoral Leadership Qualification with the HMC. He also brings a wealth of experience from his work with the British Army.
Passionate about the outdoors, environmentalism, food, travel, and football, Harry’s greatest joy is inspiring young people to engage with the complexities of History and Politics and helping them develop into future leaders.
Garron Louw

Originally from South Africa and born in Cape Town, Mr. Louw holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Science from the University of Pretoria and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from Embury Institute Pretoria (now STADIO Pretoria), specialising in Business Studies. He has taught at Hatfield School in Pretoria and Maragon Mooikloof High School, gaining extensive experience teaching senior Business Studies and supporting students through mentoring and pastoral roles. Beyond the classroom, Mr. Louw has actively coached rugby and managed other sports such as hockey, swimming, and soccer, fostering strong connections between students, staff, and parents. He also contributes to student life by supporting pupils in the boarding house, encouraging both academic progress and personal growth. A passionate supporter of the Springboks, he enjoys spending quality time with friends and family. Mr. Louw is committed to equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to thrive.

After earning a BA in Music and Primary Education from King Alfred’s, Winchester (now Winchester University) she started working in a Junior School in her hometown, indeed, the largest Junior School in West Sussex. During her 15 years teaching at this large school, indeed the largest in West Sussex, she taught all of Key Stage 2 but mainly Year 6. As well as teaching, Jane held the positions of Assessment Leader and Head of ‘Learning to Learn’. Further promotions led to her appointment as Deputy Headteacher with responsibility for Teaching and Learning, Assessment, staff Development and Academic Monitoring. She also held many pastoral responsibilities within the school and was a staff governor for 13 years. Jane was also seconded to the local authority to advise on curriculum development, teaching and learning and mathematics in other schools. More recently she has been a teacher and leader at a prestigious international school in Korea where she also holds whole school leadership responsibilities.
Mark Eyton-Jones

After studying Psychology & Sports Science at Northumbria University, teaching English as a foreign language in South Korea, and completing his PGCE at the University of Leeds, Mark taught at an outstanding UK school. He became an accomplished subject leader, KS2 teacher and behaviour management specialist. Having extensive experience of teaching KS1 & KS2, Mark rose to the challenge of Head of Year 4, implementing initiatives to facilitate learning and academic progress. As Head of House, he encouraged unity and belonging. Mark is driven by his desire to inspire children to develop their love of learning.
A passionate footballer, Mark also had the opportunity to be Head Coach for the Junior, Middle and High School football squads, taking them to many successful national and international football competitions. Out of school, when he is not playing football or playing the drums, you might find Mark on a trail run through the surrounding countryside.
Cindy Chen

Cindy’s teaching career began with drama education, which set a foundation for her philosophy to utilise fun and creative environments to foster a love of learning. In Taiwan, she created an affordable program for local children to learn English through drama activities that helped many children rediscover their confidence, especially in performance and public-speaking. In 2019, she completed her Masters in Education and continues to engage with lifelong learning. From Early Childhood Pedagogical Listening to Designing Curriculum for a Changing World, she exposes herself to many interesting courses to stay informed and cognitively active. When she is not developing her professional skills, she is to be found playing music at events or making art for special festivals. Her motto in life and at work is to always inspire yourself before attempting to inspire others.
Matthew Ratcliffe
Year 6 Teacher
Matthew Ratcliffe attained a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Nottingham Trent University, before completing his PGCE. Prior to joining Epsom he taught in highly successful schools in the UK and Spain and has learnt Spanish. Matthew ensures engaging and interactive lessons that cater to diverse learning styles. Students under his guidance not only understand the subject matter but also develop a curiosity that extends beyond the classroom. Matthew believes in the power of education and brings a dynamic energy to the classroom that captivates young minds and inspires them to love school and want to succeed.
Beyond the classroom, Matthew enjoys many outdoor pursuits, including hiking, rock climbing, running, swimming and scuba diving. He hopes to instill in his students a deep respect for the environment and understand its importance through his teaching.

Justine brings a wealth of experience to her role as Head of English and EAL in the Prep school having qualified as a teacher 26 years ago. She is a Sounds-Write certified phonics practitioner and also holds a TEMC qualification. She graduated from Lancaster University with a degree in History and English before completing a PGCE in Primary Education. Justine has worked internationally for over twenty years and joined Epsom after spending 3 years teaching at the prestigious NLCS Jeju.
Ruth Duck
Year 5 Teacher
Ruth joins us from Madrid, Spain where she has experience of teaching the British Curriculum from EYFS to KS2. She studied MA Education at the University of Dundee in the UK. After graduating, she taught in Edinburgh and then moved to Madrid in 2019. Ruth loves to learn new languages and can speak Spanish and French. She is keen to learn Malay while she is in Malaysia. Ruth is a passionate teacher who enjoys bringing creativity into the classroom. She particularly enjoys teaching maths and loves to see when a child has that ‘eureka’ moment in their learning. She is a yoga enthusiast and is qualified to teach children’s yoga. While she was in Spain, Ruth began to climb regularly and is keen to maintain this sport in Kuala Lumpur. She is particularly looking forward to exploring different climbing spots in Malaysia.
Karen Selva
Year 5 Teacher
Ms. Karen Selva joined Epsom as a Prep School class teacher, bringing her experience from Cairo English School in Egypt. She has also taught the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum in schools across Qatar and Malaysia. A sports enthusiast, Karen enjoys badminton, climbing, and hiking. She is a passionate advocate for environmental protection and is dedicated to educating her students on sustainability. As the teacher in charge of the Eco Committee in the Prep School, she leads initiatives that foster a more eco-conscious and sustainable future.
Nicola Long
Year 4 Teacher
Prior to joining Epsom, Nicola spent 12 years on the beautiful island of Jeju, where she taught as a Junior Specialist, leading the curriculum for Junior School Dance. She has over 20 years of teaching and coaching experience. Her main philosophy is that students should be provided with a safe and happy environment where they can experience success and progress, in order for them to thrive, flourish and excel both personally and academically.
Nicola went to school in Hampshire and has danced and performed her whole life. She started assisting at her dance school when she was 14 and realised that she had found her vocation. Since then she has always taught or coached in some capacity. She gained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Dance from Winchester University and taught at a well-respected Independent Prep. School in the UK before her first international position in South Korea.
Outside of teaching Nicola is interested in health and fitness, reading, films, animals and family. She is excited to be living in Malaysia with her husband and her two teenage sons.

Alicia is an experienced and dedicated primary teacher with a passion for fostering the love of learning. Ms Alicia holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology. She also completed a
PGCE where she gained a deeper understanding of child development and effective teaching methodologies. Her commitment to lifelong learning led her to pursue additional certifications, ensuring that she creates an inclusive and supportive environment for all her students.
Ms Alicia strives to cultivate a classroom environment that encourages students to freely explore, inquire, and share their thoughts. At the core of her life philosophy are the words of Maya Angelou: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” This profound insight fuels her determination to make a lasting, positive impact on each child who steps into her classroom.
Ms Alicia finds pleasure in immersing herself in nature and maintaining an active lifestyle through activities like running and playing sports such as golf and tennis. Jenny Zhang
Head of EMIP
Jenny Hill Zhang is the EMIP and Prep Mandarin Lead, as well as a dedicated prep class teacher. She is a qualified primary teacher, holding certifications in both first and foreign language Mandarin instruction. Originally from China, at the foot of the Great Wall, Jenny earned her BA from Hebei Normal University. With over 15 years of experience in international schools across China, Korea, and the UK, she has honed her kindhearted, creative, and inspiring teaching style.
In addition to her expertise in Mandarin instruction, Jenny has significant experience in EAL (English as an Additional Language) teaching, further supporting her commitment to fostering language acquisition across diverse settings.
Her passion for teaching is rooted in her belief that every child can shine in different ways, embracing the philosophy that there are “one hundred languages” in students, reflecting the diverse ways children express themselves. Outside of the classroom, Jenny enjoys Chinese calligraphy, sewing, and cycling. Her ambition is to create a joyful learning environment that nurtures students, inspiring them to thrive in both English and Mandarin settings.
Peng Yuanzhen
EMIP Teacher
Mrs Peng is a native Mandarin speaker from Mainland China, who joined Epsom having taught previously in Rafflesia International School. Peng is extremely talented and well qualified and holds a Master’s degree in teaching Chinese as a foreign language from Sun Yat-sen University Guangzhou, China. She enjoys sharing Chinese culture, Zentangle, yoga and reading traditional Chinese medicine books. Mrs Peng leads our highly successful Mandarin Department as well as the Mandarin side of the English Mandarin Immersion Programme in the Prep School.

Marissa Chin is a dedicated teacher with extensive experience in education and leadership. Ho Liang Hui is a native Mandarin speaker from Taiwan and brings over 20 years’ teaching experience to her position. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese Study from the International College of Chinese Studies, Shanghai Normal University and a Master’s in Chinese Studies from New Era University College. She also holds a Montessori Certificate in Early Childhood from Segi College. Ho Liang Hui enjoys an infectious enthusiasm for and devotion to teaching and introducing Mandarin to her students – she aspires for them to enjoy the learning process. Beyond her teaching, Ho Liang Hui enjoys watching Traditional Chinese Opera – Xiqu – as well as trying out different baking recipes. Having graduated from King’s College London with First Class Honours, Leo Baloyo was determined to follow in the footsteps of his father and take up a career in teaching and make a difference to young people’s lives. Leo teaches A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics and enjoys taking his teaching beyond the classroom via Mathematics clubs and enrichment activities that contribute to preparing students for the STEP paper that is required by some of the more elite universities. Leo believes in the power of education and his father, an inspirational and successful teacher is his role model.
Olivia Archibald

Olivia has returned to Epsom College in Malaysia, having taught here during 2018-2020. She left Malaysia to teach at Epsom College in the UK, where she taught Mathematics and Further Mathematics A Level and iGCSE. Olivia was educated in the UK; she has a First Class Honours degree and a PGCE in Mathematics from University College London. Olivia cares deeply not only about the mathematical success of her students, but also their general wellbeing and happiness. To maintain her own wellbeing, Olivia represents a Gaelic football team and an Australian football team in KL. She is a lover of all sports and an advocate in particular for girls’ participation in sports.
Jack Wallace

Mr Wallace joins us from St John’s School, Leatherhead having previously taught at Epsom College, Surrey UK for a number of years. A passionate maths teacher and advocate of the UKMT’s Mathematical Challenges, Mr Wallace encourages all students to gain a conceptual understanding of the mathematical techniques being taught. After graduating with a degree in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford, Mr Wallace spent his formative career in the world of Metals and Mining, advising clients on their respective market strategies. Outside of the classroom, Mr Wallace is a keen sportsman receiving junior county honours in cricket and squash. He is also an avid golfer and enjoys unwinding by watching his beloved Tottenham Hotspur (provided they win!). He joins ECiM with his wife Sumaya and 5 year old son Huw.
Ali Arafath
Mathematics Teacher
Arafath is a Mathematics teacher who is currently teaching IGCSE and A level Mathematics including Further Mathematics. He has always had a love of Mathematics. He began his teaching journey a lot earlier than most, by providing tuition to his peers in years 8 and 9, eventually making his way up to a teaching assistant in his second year at university (in addition to studying to be an aerospace engineer). Ultimately Arafath gained a bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering (Hons) and a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Arafath did not set out to be a teacher, but soon realised that this was his vocation. His love for teaching, “a noble profession”, continued to grow as he could see his students growing and learning together. The challenge of problem solving has always been key to his passion for mathematics.
After his M.Sc. he studied for a postgraduate diploma in Education to become a qualified teacher. Prior to joining Epsom, Arafath worked as head of department for both Mathematics and ICT and taught IGCSE and A level Mathematics. Students in his care participated in international competitions where they won many awards and received top IGCSE results. Arafath is a keen sportsman and enjoys participating in many of the sports that Epsom has to offer, particularly badminton, volleyball and cricket.
Michelle Brown

Michelle Brown has been a teacher for over twenty years since graduating from the University of Surrey with a BSc in Linguistics and International Relations. She went on to gain a PGCE from the University of East Anglia and she has taught a range of subjects including French and Maths in England, United Arab Emirates and China, before arriving in Malaysia. Michelle loves the variety and challenges that she finds every day in the classroom and works hard to make every student feel noticed and valued. Outside of school, Michelle enjoys sports, reading and long walks with her dog.
Gloria Chiu

Gloria holds a Master of Education in Leadership and Management from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. With thirteen years of teaching experience, six of which were dedicated to delivering mathematics courses for students in Years 6 to 12, she has successfully coached students for prestigious competitions such as the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) and the Singapore and Asian Math Olympiad (SASMO). Since transitioning into teaching in 2010, she obtained a teaching license in Hawaii in 2021 and in the District of Columbia in 2023. Gloria is a strong advocate for a growth mindset and reflective learning, believing that mathematics is a powerful way to cultivate resilience in students. She encourages her students to view mistakes as valuable opportunities for growth and emphasizes that taking risks is an essential part of the learning process.

Simon Downes is in his 30th year as a teacher, bringing a wealth of experience to his role. He trained at the University of Nottingham and spent 22 years working in Secondary State Schools in the UK, primarily in Hampshire. During this time, he held various leadership roles, including Head of Department, Assistant Head, and Lead Teacher. For the past seven years, Simon served as Head of Maths at the Junior School of NLCS Jeju in Korea.
Simon is especially excited to join Epsom College in Malaysia as a Maths teacher, a role that allows him to focus entirely on his students, which is the aspect of teaching he loves the most.
Simon has a son, Thomas, in Year 12, while his wife and two daughters are currently in the UK completing their studies. In his spare time, Simon enjoys road cycling, cooking, and DJing at parties, where he can usually be found behind the decks playing music.
Yee Siew Chin

Ms Yee Siew is a dedicated educator with over 18 years of experience, specialising in IGCSE Mathematics and Additional Mathematics for students from Year 7 to 11. She holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Material Science from Universiti Putra Malaysia and a PGCE from the University of Nottingham Malaysia. She began her career in the semiconductor industry but soon discovered her passion for teaching. Ms Siew takes great fulfilment in helping students develop a deep understanding of mathematics, fostering both their confidence and enjoyment in the subject. Her teaching philosophy centres on clear explanations, personalised guidance, and a positive learning environment. Having graduated with a mathematics degree from the University of Sussex, she worked for five years in industry in London before completing her PCGE at St Mary’s University, Twickenham. She has subsequently taught for 14 years in the UK, taking up various pastoral and curriculum positions within sixth form leadership and teaching and learning . She has taught at all age and ability levels in the secondary sector, celebrating 13 years of GCSE and A-level maths and further maths results.
Saraniya Krishnan

Saraniya C. Krishnan holds a First Class Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with Education, specializing in Statistics, and is currently pursuing a fast-track Master’s degree in Statistics. With almost seven years of teaching experience in both Mathematics and Additional Mathematics, she began her career in government schools during her studies at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris and is now embarking on her first role in an international school. An active member of the Malaysian Red Cross Society since 2014, she is passionate about service, learning, and inspiring students to enjoy problem-solving. Marko Bogdanov is a Computer Science and Mathematics Teacher at Epsom College Malaysia. He has taught KS3–KS5 in China, Myanmar and Malaysia, delivering Cambridge IGCSE (0580/0606) and A-Level courses, with earlier experience in AP Calculus and Statistics.
Marko’s classroom emphasises clear modelling, adaptive practice and data-informed feedback that build confident problem solvers, especially for EAL learners. He contributes to curriculum design and assessment tracking, and his students include an accelerated IGCSE entrant who achieved 98%. Having always had a love for the natural word, Mrs Martinez studied Microbiology at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh where she received a 1st Class honors degree. She then carried out scientific research at the University of Aberdeen where she found her love of teaching through the University’s outreach programme. In 2006, she graduated from The University of Edinburgh with a PGDE in Biology and started her teaching career in Scotland, later relocating to London, Uganda, Thailand and the Dominican Republic before joining Epsom College as Head of Biology and Assistant Housemistress of Crawfurd House. She is currently furthering her education by studying for an MSc in International Education with the University of St Andrews. Her love for life long learning, experience in teaching Biology and her passion for supporting students enable her to give Epsom students the highest quality educational experience and the pastoral care to thrive in Boarding.
Ellen Crann

Ellen holds a BSc (Hons) in Life Sciences and is passionate about science education and developing young peoples’ interest in STEM. Ellen gained her PGCE from Bristol University and has taught at a number of schools in Gloucestershire in the UK. Before her teaching career, Ellen lived and worked in Southern Africa as a Safari Field Guide, allowing her to follow her passion for wildlife research and conservation. As well as her teaching experience, Ellen has hands on experience of science research in the natural world and lists some of her favourite experiences as collecting samples from elephants for use in artificial insemination and removing horns from rhinos to reduce poaching. Ellen is looking forward to the challenge of working at a top international school and using the pastoral skills that she has developed during her teaching career and her role as Pastoral Lead with the English Schools’ Orchestra, in her new position of Assistant Housemistress. Ellen has travelled extensively and often with a focus on the natural world. She enjoys caring for animals, cooking and gardening, and hopes to inspire her students to find a balance between their academic achievements and discovering outside interests that develop, nurture, and support them for their future.

Matt Richardson is an experienced teacher who joined our Science department at Epsom in 2022. After graduating with an M.Sc, Matt had planned to work in the NHS, but a volunteer opportunity abroad led him to discover that his career lies within Education. Matt has a PGCE in Secondary Science and has taught students from many diverse backgrounds and abilities in the UK, South Korea, Thailand and Cambodia.
Matt strives to create meaningful learning experiences for his pupils that are characterised by enquiry and investigation of the world through questioning, real world examples and practical investigations. He hopes that when his students leave school they are equipped with the necessary skills to understand and apply science in their lives and to fulfil their potential. Outside the classroom, Matt enjoys long distance cycling, martial arts, chess and travelling.

Loganantini Paramasivam graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Biotechnology, achieving a First Class Degree. Before transitioning into education, she worked in research laboratories, gaining valuable hands-on experience in the field of biotechnology. After deepening her scientific knowledge and practical expertise, she moved into education, where she has spent the past seven years teaching Biology and Science at leading international schools in Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur. Mahesh Warrier

Mahesh Warrier holds a Master’s degree in Chemistry in addition to a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Prior to joining Epsom College, he taught IBDP and IGCSE Chemistry in some of the most prestigious international schools in Asia. He has successfully led Science and Chemistry Departments and been a Head of Year for Years 10 and 11. Mahesh believes strongly in facilitating and nurturing the qualities of passion for hard work, resilience and academic honesty in his students. As a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Mahesh ensures up to date knowledge of the latest innovations in the field of Chemistry and he strives to encourage as well as support his students in the achievement of success in international competitions and examinations that fully test their abilities. As Head of Chemistry, Mahesh remains committed to supporting students in learning theoretical, practical and analytical skills as well as the applications of online learning and artificial intelligence in ethical ways to promote students’ own self-development and preparation for higher tertiary education at elite universities.

Subash Loganathan is an enthusiastic, positive and approachable member of our staff. He values education and loves to learn – he is an excellent role model in this way. He joined Epsom from INSPIROS International School, where he was the Head of Science Department and supported the work of the Mathematics department. He previously taught at INTI International College (Subang), and has 10 years’ experience of teaching Chemistry Cambridge A-levels, IB Diploma, Pre-University courses and also IGCSE Chemistry. Further to his teaching responsibilities, Subash has acquired great experience in the orchestration of Science Departments and in the formalisation of data setting & assessments. He brings this range of skills to the Science portfolio at Epsom.

Georgina Prestidge
Head of English
Georgie joins Epsom College in Malaysia from its prestigious sister school in the UK. Having also taught at an international school in Hong Kong in the past, she is delighted to return to Asia and lead the delivery of English, a subject that has the power to cultivate collaboration, critical thinking and creativity, whilst nurturing emotional intelligence and empathy.
Georgie has a BA (Hons) in English Literature from the University of Exeter and attained her PGCE through Canterbury Christ Church University. She has since taught across a diverse range of sectors, gaining experience in teaching towards multiple examination boards at both GCSE and A-level.
Having attended boarding school herself, Georgie knows first-hand the joy of coming of age in an exciting, academically driven learning environment that also encourages the pursuit of passions beyond the classroom. Georgie considers herself to be an all-rounder, staying active through a range of sports, being a regular visitor of galleries and museums, singing in choirs and travelling widely.

Kevin Hill was educated as a child in England. As a B.A. English Literature graduate from Newcastle, he moved to China to experience the wider world and began his teaching career as an early years and adult English educator. Discovering a love for teaching during this time, he remained in China teaching for 8 years on China’s east coast. He then returned to Exeter to gain his PGCE and after continuing his teaching practice in England in Essex and Devon he moved to South Korea.
After 8 years in Korea where he honed his skills in teaching senior school English and developing boarding house experiences, he has moved to Malaysia, his first time to the country, with his wife and two daughters.
His lessons are characteristically creative, fun and memorable. He hopes to continue to inspire all students from beginner to higher level to find a love for English and world literature.
Nourah Elkemary
English Teacher
Ms. Elkemary brings over 12 years of international teaching experience to Epsom College. Originally from the small town of Waihi in New Zealand, she earned her Master’s in Education in the vibrant (but windy!) city of Wellington. Her passion for English and literature drives her commitment to inspiring students to develop a genuine love for the subject.
Outside the classroom, Ms. Elkemary enjoys playing guitar & piano, singing, baking and reading. A language enthusiast, she is fluent in English and Dutch and has some knowledge of German. Though she prefers the cool embrace of winter, she can often be found enjoying New Zealand’s Pacific beaches with her family.

Ryan worked as a journalist for 7 years before going into teaching. He has worked in education for over a decade. Besides teaching, he has also worked as a musician, and has a fascination with how music and the arts in general can positively impact learning. He’s been married for 16 years and is a father of three, and is pursuing postgraduate studies in Psychology.
Elizabeth Marshall

Dr. Elizabeth Marshall is an English educator and practising poet with nearly two decades of teaching experience in both secondary schools and universities. She holds a PhD in English (Creative Writing) from the University of Nottingham Malaysia, an MFA in Poetry from City University of Hong Kong, and a BA in Literature from the University of London. Over the years, she has taught English Language, Literature, and Creative Writing at Wesley Methodist School, Asia Pacific University, Multimedia University, and as a guest lecturer at the University of Nottingham. A passionate teacher, she seeks to inspire students to read deeply, write creatively, and think critically. Beyond the classroom, Dr. Marshall is an active poet, with publications including Elaha! Elaha! Malaysian Hybrid Ghazals (2023) and Malaysian Places and Spaces (2024). She also contributes to academic research as an examiner and guest lecturer. At Epsom College, she brings her love for literature and poetry into every lesson.

Zena Dai
Second in EAL and Curriculum Lead for British Summer School
Zena has been teaching at Epsom since 2022, having previously taught the English national curriculum across KS1 and KS2 in London. She holds a BA (Hons) and PGCE from UCL along with a TEFL certificate; and is currently pursuing a Masters in Education at UCL.
Zena is committed to young people’s education and believes in every child’s ability to succeed and fulfil their highest potential; and has volunteered in English language programmes across Europe and SE Asia, helping students of all ages build confidence, fluency, and language skills.
Since 2019, Zena has contributed to academic and pastoral initiatives at British Summer Schools and prior to education, was a performing rights’ agent for UK theatre. She is currently Second in EAL, teaching KS3 EAL and Humanities and Cambridge International Education ESL at KS4.
Zena enjoys the arts, culture and travel; and benefits from a British and American upbringing with Korean heritage.

Mr Dean Jones is the Housemaster for Granville House, and teaches English as an Additional Language to pupils in Epsom College in Malaysia.
Mr Jones has enjoyed a rich and varied career, and has worked in countries globally – notably China and Japan. Two of his more prominent roles were running a chain of cram schools in Tokyo, and also serving as deputy managing director for a large German multinational company, with a group of hotels and English language teaching schools around the world.
In addition to an honours degree in Applied Physics from the University of Essex, Mr Jones has an iPGCE from the University of Nottingham, a master’s degree in education management from the University of Surrey, and is currently studying for a doctorate in Emerging Technologies in Education.
Formerly an IELTS examiner, Mr Jones was a member of the Chartered Management Institute and chaired English UK South West, a subsidiary of the organisation that is responsible for the accreditation of English as an Additional Language teaching in the UK.
Mr Jones enjoys playing golf and the piano: he plays both poorly, but feels that isn’t a problem.

Ryan worked as a journalist for 7 years before going into teaching. He has worked in education for over a decade. Besides teaching, he has also worked as a musician, and has a fascination with how music and the arts in general can positively impact learning. He’s been married for 16 years and is a father of three, and is pursuing postgraduate studies in Psychology.

Ms.Tisha was teaching in a reputable IB school in Kuala Lumpur. Besides educating young learners, she was involved in many other aspects of the teaching industry: designing & tailoring active learning strategies for students as well as developing assessment papers for students. She was also a grade-level team leader who guided and supported other teachers along the way. In addition to extensive exposure to the IB curriculum, she was teaching EAL in Epsom, Prep School. Having extensive exposure to 2 renowned international curricula, she is eager to continue offering quality education experiences to her students. During her service in the Prep School, Ms. Tisha has also supported students with additional needs and developed their literacy confidence. She believes that every student learns differently and as educators, we are responsible to recognize and embrace them.
Shaun Garnett

Shaun joined Epsom College Malaysia in 2021, bringing with him almost 20 years of experience in education. He studied in South Africa and obtained his PGCE from the University of South Africa (UNISA). The majority of his career was spent at an independent school in South Africa, where he gained extensive experience teaching senior school students and had the privilege of leading the prep school. This role allowed him to develop his leadership skills while also gaining a deeper understanding of supporting pupils at different stages of their educational journey. Shaun is passionate about education and is committed to helping young people realise their full potential. He believes strongly in guiding students to build confidence, resilience, and a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom. At Epsom, he continues to dedicate himself to fostering a supportive and inspiring environment for all learners.
Bea Puro

Bea holds a BA (Hons) in Education with a specialism in Special Educational Needs. Before joining the EAL department, Bea taught students in the Philippines, Japan, Kuwait and Cambodia where she created dynamic and inclusive lessons that fostered curiosity, critical thinking, and collaboration. Bea believes that every child brings a unique set of experience, talents and perspectives to the classroom and is therefore a strong advocate that all voices are heard and valued. In her free time, Bea enjoys the peace and quiet found in the great outdoors and has spent many nights camping under the stars around Europe and Asia. She is passionate about interior design and the positive impact it can have on mood and wellbeing.

Ms. Adriana graduated as a Registered Nurse from one of the top local universities in Malaysia. Because of her passion for teaching, she started as a Teaching Assistant in Epsom College in Malaysia in the year 2016. She also had experience teaching EAL for the Prep School. Adriana enjoys teaching and supporting the students according to their needs.
Sooi Yu Ting

Ms Sooi has joined Epsom College Malaysia since 2024, and currently serves as an EAL teacher while also teaching Year 9 English. In addition, Ms Sooi serves as a Resident Tutor in Wilson House.
Ms Sooi holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and Literature in Taiwan, followed by a Master of Education in English as a Second Language in University of Malaya. Currently, she is pursuing PhD of Education in University of Malaya.
Since beginning a teaching career in 2019, Ms Sooi has developed experience in teaching English across various settings and, since 2022, has specialised in supporting EAL learners in international schools. She strongly believes that every step forward in learning, no matter how big or small, deserves recognition and strives to help students feel proud of their progress.

Ms Adrienna Gomez Spencer is a Malaysian educator with over 16 years of teaching experience in international schools across Malaysia and Hong Kong. She has taught in Early Years, Primary, and English as an Additional Language (EAL), and is passionate about helping children build confidence and reach their full potential. Adrienna has taught a wide range of subjects at primary level and has also previously led departments, including English in Primary and Whole-School Art, reflecting her broad experience and commitment to education.
She holds an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and is a recently qualified Apple Learning Coach. This has further strengthened her interest in delivering engaging and interactive lessons that blend creativity and technology, bringing learning to life for every student. Outside the classroom, Adrienna enjoys reading, creating art, cooking, baking, and travelling.

Mrs Michelle Brown has been a teacher for over twenty years since graduating from the University of Surrey with a BSc in Linguistics and International Relations. She went on to gain a PGCE from the University of East Anglia and she has taught a range of subjects including French and Maths in England, United Arab Emirates and China, before arriving in Malaysia. Mrs Brown loves the variety and challenges that she finds every day in the classroom and works hard to make every student feel noticed and valued. Outside of school, Mrs Brown enjoys sports, reading and long walks.
Nor Suhada Binti Seti

Ms Suhada is a Malay teacher at Epsom College and Suhada is a passionate and qualified educator with a Master’s degree in Malay Language Education, a Diploma in Teaching, and a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic Language and Civilization from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). She has many years of experience teaching students from primary to secondary levels, both in international school in Malaysia.
Her expertise is in IGCSE Malay Foreign Language, IGCSE First Language Malay, and Bahasa Melayu SPM, where she has guided many students to achieve excellent results. She is known for her positive teaching style, clear communication, and strong dedication to each student’s success. In her free time, she loves cooking new recipes and enjoys travelling.
Wan Siti Nor Indah

Ms Indah is a Malay as a Foreign Language teacher at Epsom College Malaysia, teaching students in Key Stage 2 to 4. She graduated with a B.Ed (Hons) in TESL from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam and has been teaching since 2010. Over the years, she has gained experience in both local schools and international schools in Malaysia, giving her a broad perspective on education.
Ms Indah is committed to helping students discover the richness of the Malay language and culture. Her teaching encourages students to grow in confidence and curiosity, while recognising that language is not only a skill but also a way of connecting across cultures.
Beyond teaching, she contributes to whole-school initiatives such as Project Thrive and supports student participation in language competitions. In her free time, she enjoys reading, trying new recipes and enjoying good food, and finding new ways to inspire her classroom practice.
Peng Yuanzhen

Originally from China, Ms Peng holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Language and Literature and a Master’s in Teaching Chinese to Foreigners. She is currently pursuing an additional Master’s in Inclusion and Special Education. Since joining the school in 2016, Ms. Peng has taught Mandarin to both Prep and Senior School students, with a current focus on the Senior School.
With extensive international teaching experience in China, the Philippines, and Malaysia, Ms. Peng effectively supports students in achieving excellent results in IGCSE, A Level, and HSK examinations. She is also committed to enriching their education outside the classroom, coaching students to outstanding success in annual events such as the AIMS Language Competition, the Writing Competition, and the Chinese Bridge Competition. Ms. Peng is dedicated to fostering a dynamic and supportive learning environment for all her students.
Claire Fong

Ms Claire Fong completed her BA in Chinese Studies at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia, and her MA in Ancient Chinese Literature at Fudan University, Shanghai. With over 10 years of experience teaching Mandarin Chinese in international schools delivering the British curriculum, she has continually refined her expertise and holds the CTCSOL qualification. She also serves as a Cambridge Assistant Examiner for Mandarin Chinese as a Foreign Language, Second Language, First Language and A Level with Cambridge Assessment International Education. In addition, Ms Fong is a long-standing committee member of the Malaysian Sinology Association, contributing to research and collaboration in the field.

Originally from Canada, Chantal completed a Bachelor’s of Arts- History at York University before moving to the United Kingdom to attend Canterbury Christchurch University, where she graduated with a PGCE in Secondary History. Chantal is an enthusiastic History teacher with extensive experience teaching at a range of schools within the UK. Her teaching practice is rooted in mutual respect and high expectations based on effort, honesty and resilience. Students are at the centre of all she does and she aims to build learners’ confidence, encourage them to take risks and foster a genuine love of learning. A true history geek, she enjoys visiting historic sites and travelling with her young family. Her particular interests are post-colonial, social and ‘hidden’ histories as well as the Cold War.

An experienced head of department, Andrew spent ten years at Watford Grammar School for Girls, where he was responsible for academic progress and support at KS4. He also has a strong background in supporting talented students with successful applications to top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
Andrew has organised a wide range of extra-curricular activities, such as trips to Washington D.C., Belgium’s WW1 battlefields, and UK debating competitions. A graduate of the University of East Anglia with a PGCE from Canterbury Christ Church University, Andrew enjoys sports, current affairs, and travelling with his family to historical locations, embracing different cultures and cuisines along the way.

Harry Hughes proudly hails from East London, UK, and joins Epsom College in Malaysia this year as a teacher of History and Politics. He studied History at the University of St Andrews, specialising in Islamic and Middle Eastern History, and completed his PGCE at the University of Buckingham.
Harry has spent the past six years teaching in the independent sector in London, including two years as a Boys’ Head of House, during which he earned a Pastoral Leadership Qualification with the HMC. He also brings a wealth of experience from his work with the British Army.
Passionate about the outdoors, environmentalism, food, travel, and football, Harry’s greatest joy is inspiring young people to engage with the complexities of History and Politics and helping them develop into future leaders.
Dominic Walmsley

Born and raised in Chelmsford, United Kingdom, Mr Walmsley joins Epsom College Malaysia this year as a teacher of History and Politics. Educated in a UK independent boarding school, Mr. Walmsley studied Politics, Philosophy and Chinese at the University of Exeter, specialising in Continental Philosophy and East Asian Geopolitics, before completing his PGCE with the University of Buckingham.
Starting his career in the independent sector, Mr. Walmsley oversaw the expansion of the Politics department to the younger years of the School, before moving into the state sector as Head of Politics. Passionate about international relations, film and vinyl records, Mr. Walmsley’s greatest joy is inspiring young people to engage with politics and equipping them with the tools to become critical and independent thinkers.

Sam was primarily educated in the UK, where he obtained a first class honours degree from the University of Exeter and a PGDE in Geography. He also holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Management from the University of Hong Kong. In addition to teaching GCSE and A Level Geography, Sam has also taught A Level Economics and is a great believer in cross curricular collaboration, seeing geography as the connection between natural and social sciences. He therefore strongly believes that a good geographical education enables the lateral thinking required to face global challenges. Field work plays a core role in the learning experience of Sam’s students, developing research skills that prepare them for the rigours of higher education. Sam enjoys all sports, particularly those which involve a racket but has a real passion for cycling and will often be seen on a set of two wheels, be it for the road or trails of Malaysia. Further away from college campus, Sam utilises geographical understanding to seek out the best surf spots in Asia.

Pajan Kaur
Counsellor
Pajan is our friendly and supportive school counsellor. She works closely with our student body to guide them towards managing their mental wellbeing while nurturing them holistically as they build their personality and identity.
Pajan completed her Masters in Applied Psychology at Middlesex University in the UK and obtained a Master’s degree in Counselling from OUM in Malaysia. She is passionate about counselling and psychology and completed her Bachelor of Psychology in HELP University, Malaysia. As a student she volunteered to support various causes and programs and benefited from the opportunity to interact with people from all walks of life.
Pajan has extensive experience as a counsellor including in a boarding school. At Epsom she works with staff to foster a supportive ethos where students feel safe to discuss their mental wellbeing and to address any anxieties that they may be experiencing. During her free time Pajan loves to spend time with her family, especially her daughters.

Dominique Perrang joined Epsom College in Malaysia in 2022 and has since served as Assistant Headteacher (Achievement). With over 13 years of experience in education, leadership, and curriculum development, Dominique brings a data-driven and forward-thinking approach to driving academic excellence.
Holding a Master’s in Education and certification as an AI Trainer from AI Singapore, Dominique is deeply committed to integrating future-ready skills into the curriculum. She played a pivotal role in launching Epsom’s first student-led AI conference in collaboration with the GEP team and has led academic enrichment such as the World Scholar’s Cup and the Tiger Global Case Study. Her leadership in coordinating and leading Epsom’s first FOBISIA event, “AI in Leadership,” highlights her dedication to student enrichment and creating opportunities that challenge and stretch students.
In her current role, Dominique is focused on aligning academic achievement with holistic student development. She has introduced systems to track student progress, coordinate timely interventions, and design customised academic pathways to support students’ individual growth.

Dr. Suraya brings practical insights to the classroom. Her past roles include Sales Auditor for Malaysia Airlines, Billing Accountant for Airod Malaysia, and Financial Advisor for AIA Malaysia. Phillip is a Business and Economics Teacher with over ten years of international teaching experience across Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Mozambique, and the United Arab Emirates. He holds a Bachelor of Education Honours in Accounting and a Master of Education in Educational Management from Midlands State University, Zimbabwe. He has taught Business Studies, Business Math, Economics, and Accounting in diverse curricula including Cambridge, IEB, and American systems. Phillip is currently pursuing his PhD in Education (Educational Leadership and Management) at the University of Johannesburg, focusing on Entrepreneurial leadership of school food gardens: A key factor for catalysing sustainable education in the era of 4IR. Originally from South Africa and born in Cape Town, Mr. Louw holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Science from the University of Pretoria and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from Embury Institute Pretoria (now STADIO Pretoria), specialising in Business Studies. He has taught at Hatfield School in Pretoria and Maragon Mooikloof High School, gaining extensive experience teaching senior Business Studies and supporting students through mentoring and pastoral roles. Beyond the classroom, Mr. Louw has actively coached rugby and managed other sports such as hockey, swimming, and soccer, fostering strong connections between students, staff, and parents. He also contributes to student life by supporting pupils in the boarding house, encouraging both academic progress and personal growth. A passionate supporter of the Springboks, he enjoys spending quality time with friends and family. Mr. Louw is committed to equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to thrive.
Russell Crann
Director of Performing Arts
Russell Crann first joined Epsom in April 2018 although temporarily returned to the UK during the pandemic. He has a degree in Music from University of Bristol and completed his PGCE at the University of Suffolk. He has Grade VIII on the French Horn, the Piano and the Violin and developed his enthusiasm for music as a young child while a Chorister at St Edmundsbury Cathedral.
He is passionate about promoting music to young people and for the last 10 years he has been the Course Director for the English Schools’ Orchestra, a national orchestra for talented musicians in the UK. During his time at Epsom, Russell has been Musical Director for the production of Our House, and established the regular Open Mic Night series and the popular Night at the Movies concerts.
He loves all types of music and has the strong belief that the key to appreciating music is to understand it; something that he promotes with his students. He is delighted to be back at Epsom and continue the progress that the Music Department made in his first period as Director of Music.

Jenny is a very experienced and successful educator who has worked in boarding schools before joining us at Epsom. Her philosophy resonates very closely with Epsom’s – she recognises all her students as individuals and values and celebrates this individuality in her lessons. Jenny considers her subjects of English and Dramatic Arts to be a wonderful combination because they allow her to be very creative with her teaching and to use Drama skills to teach the English language. Nicholas Smith

Mr Nick Smith studied Music at the University of Huddersfield before completing postgraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He retrained as a classroom teacher in 2008–09 and has since taught in schools in Wales, Brunei and Malaysia, most recently as Head of Music at King Henry VIII College.
Mr Smith previously enjoyed a distinguished career as a freelance horn player. In 1998 he became a founding member of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, beginning a long association with the region. He also performed with many of the UK’s leading orchestras, touring across Europe, Asia and the Americas, and worked with conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Lorin Maazel and Vladimir Ashkenazy. His recordings include work with the Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC ensembles, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the MPO.

Rachel Donaldson

Ms Rachel Donaldson joins Epsom College Malaysia after seven years of teaching at an international school in South Korea. Originally from the north of England, she studied at the University of Edinburgh, completed her teaching qualification with the University of Sheffield, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Education. She is passionate about nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and resilience through Art and Design.
Yau Boon Han

Yau Boon Han is a passionate Digital Artist that loves to explore digital and traditional mediums. He completed his diploma in Multimedia Design at Limkokwing University College(2011), and his bachelor of Digital Media Design at Swinburne University, Melbourne(2012). He is the grand prize winner for Nandos art initiative,2016. Having his solo exhibition in Gallery Prima Kuala Lumpur sponsored by Nandos in the year 2019. In the same year, he was also one of the Visual Art Project 4 finalists (2019), and had a group exhibition at Rumah Tangsi Kuala Lumpur with other finalists. He had experience working under an animation company for one year and working as a freelance digital illustrator for two years before joining the education line. Guthrie Miller
Director of Sports
Mr Guthrie Miller joined Epsom College Malaysia in January 2023 as Director of Sport. Originally from Kent in the South East of England, he completed his degree at the University of Leicester in the year 2000. He has over twenty years experience of working in the UK sports development sector, supporting schools, governing bodies, and charities to access grant funding, increase participation and improve health and wellbeing outcomes for young people.
Since arriving at Epsom, Mr Miller has been focused upon building a world-class school sport programme across the College’s 50-acre campus, developing opportunities that balance participation and performance. An experienced player and coach of both hockey and cricket, he is a strong advocate for team sport and believes that there is a sport or activity for everyone who is open to trying, helping each student find confidence, resilience, and enjoyment through physical activity

Lewis Baillie

Mr Lewis Baillie is an experienced educational leader with a strong background in both academics and sport. He has held a number of leadership positions, including Head of Secondary, Deputy Head of Pastoral, and Designated Safeguarding Lead during his eight years in Abu Dhabi. Before that, he spent four years in Malaysia as Director of Sport at KTJ, so he already feels a strong connection to the country.
As a Head of Academic PE, Mr Baillie brings a real passion for physical education and sport. While he enjoys teaching across all areas, he has a personal love for golf, tennis, and football. Originally from Scotland but raised in England, he studied Sports Science before completing his PGCE in Secondary Education. Mr Baillie has recently completed the NPQML and NPQH awards.
Alongside his school leadership, Mr Baillie is also trained as a BSO inspector and has carried out inspections across the Middle East with Penta International, further strengthening his knowledge of international school standards.

Helen Miller
PE Coach
Mrs Helen Miller is Housemistress at Epsom College Malaysia, where she also teaches Physical Education, coordinates educational visits, and serves as Deputy Head of Boarding. She brings extensive experience from over 20 years in the UK independent school sector, followed by an international post at Rugby School Thailand, before joining Epsom in 2022.
Through her teaching and leadership, Mrs Miller inspires students to embrace challenge and grow with confidence. She is highly supportive of learning outside of the classroom, leading a wide range of trips and co-curricular opportunities that foster independence, resilience, and a spirit of adventure. With a strong passion for pastoral care, she ensures that boarding life is both nurturing and structured, helping students to balance their academic, social, and personal development within a supportive and inclusive environment
Yulia Pleshivtseva
PE Teacher, Year 12 G2 Tutor, Forest House
Yulia has always been passionate about sport and fitness. She graduated with First-Class Honours in Physical Education from the Russian State University of Physical Education and Sports and has spent her career inspiring young people to enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle. While tennis is her main sport, she loves all kinds of physical activity and believes that everyone can find something active that brings them joy. Before joining Epsom, Yulia led a very successful PE Department and gained wide experience in both teaching and coaching. She enjoys helping students discover their strengths, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love for sport.
Alongside teaching, Yulia is also a qualified nutritionist who takes a very personal and scientific approach to health. She works with world-class athletes, particularly professional tennis players, to maximise their performance and recovery. Her work includes analysing bloodwork and genetics to design tailored nutrition, supplementation, and recovery strategies. Yulia also supports adults and children in reaching their health goals—whether that’s improving digestion, balancing hormones, or managing weight—always focusing on sustainable habits and long-term wellbeing.
Daniel Long
Head of Boarding
Before joining Epsom, Daniel spent 12 years in South Korea, more specifically on Jeju Island teaching at a British International School. Daniel has almost 25 years teaching experience, teaching in a number of different countries with South Korea and UK making up the majority of his experience. Daniel believes that all children have special talents but such talents are not always obvious to the students themselves or to those not involved in education. As an educator he believes in never setting limitations and that hard work and endeavor will always keep one on the path to success.
Originally from Ireland, Daniel completed third level education in the UK, after completing a BSc in Sports Science, he then went on to gain PGCE’s in Sports Science and Physical Education. Some years later he completed a MSc in Performance Coaching at Stirling University. In recent years Daniel continued to develop his professional practice, completing numerous online courses as well as a Boarding School Association (BSA) diploma. Daniel is delighted to be part of the Epsom team and both he and his family are looking forward to a great year.
Emily Spivey
Rosebery Housemistress PE Coach
Emily grew up and was educated in South Wales, following which she studied for a BA(Ed) in PE and Geography at the University of Exeter. Following completion of her degree she began her journey into boarding and worked at Dauntsey’s School in England. Emily’s husband is Australian and the two of them spent some time working and living in Country Victoria. A return back to the UK saw Emily continue in boarding with positions at Downe House and Sherborne Girls. More recently, Emily has held a position as a Housemistress at an international school in South Korea which gave her vital experience before becoming the HMM of Rosebery House. Not only does Emily have a passion for pastoral care but also sport, crafts and travelling with her family.
Samuel Redwood-loud
Head of Key Stage 3 PE Coach
Mr Sam Redwood-Loud joined Epsom in January 2025 as Head of Academic PE and has moved across to the Head of KS3 role this year. Mr Redwood-Loud holds a 1st class degree in Sport and Exercise Science and completed his teacher training at the University of Exeter. He has vast expierience teaching and leading practical and classroom PE in UK independent boarding schools. Mr Redwood-Loud is passionate about sport, leading cricket and badminton since arriving at Epsom. He believes in establishing strong relationships and creating meaningful opportunities and challenges for his students.
Matthew Murray
Granville Assistant Housemaster PE Coach
Matt Murray joined as the Assistant Housemaster for Granville House at Epsom College Malaysia, where he also teaches Physical Education and contributes to the school’s co-curricular sports programme. He brings with him a passion for developing well-rounded students who thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Matt grew up in the United States and holds a degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Alabama as well as a U.S. Teaching Credential in both K–12 Physical Education and Secondary English. He has previously served as a Physical Education Teacher, Athletics Director, and Curriculum Coordinator throughout various international schools in S.E. Asia, overseeing fixtures, tournaments, and inter-school sports. His coaching experience spans basketball, volleyball, track & field, baseball, and badminton, with notable achievement including leading teams to national championships in Thailand. His teaching philosophy resembles a constructivist approach, encouraging pupils to take ownership of their learning while building resilience, teamwork, and integrity, skills he feels are essential for students to succeed at the next stage of their educational and professional journeys.
