English-Mandarin Immersion Programme

The English-Mandarin programme at Epsom is designed to develop fluent speakers in both English and Mandarin, providing them with a competitive edge in a changing and challenging world. Within this programme, we ensure equal exposure to both English and Mandarin. Children will not only simply learn the languages, but also use both English and Mandarin for accessing and engaging knowledge and skills. Our English-Mandarin programme is also aligned with the UK National Curriculum.

This is an effective programme that provides fun and stimulating learning. Using enquiry-based learning, we cultivate children’s natural curiosity, interests and ability to discover new knowledge and reach their potential on an inspiring learning journey. We engage our students with diverse learning activities including stories, songs and games. This programme also focuses on both English and Mandarin reading skills. A balanced English and Mandarin guided reading programme is assigned to all EMIP classes. This programme uses flexible differentiation, individual learning plans and teaching strategies to inspire and motivate children to learn a new language and culture, challenge themselves educationally and develop strong social skills, resilience and positive learning attitudes that will ensure future success.

Who is it for?

This programme is now available in Year 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 in 2025-2026. EYFS students will join the Year 1 EMIP class for a transition phase.
