Eighteen students from Years 8–11 recently had the opportunity to attend the FOBISIA Sustainability Conference hosted by Bangkok Patana International School. The event brought together students from across the region to explore key environmental challenges and consider how young people can contribute to a more sustainable future.
Throughout the conference, students took part in a range of hands-on workshops designed to demonstrate practical approaches to sustainability. One session involved creating soap using environmentally friendly ingredients, highlighting how everyday products can be made with less impact on the environment. In another workshop, students produced keychains from recycled materials, encouraging creative reuse and raising awareness of the importance of reducing waste.
The conference also featured a series of engaging talks from guest speakers working in sustainability-related fields. Students learned about how industries are adapting their practices to become more environmentally responsible and heard about the importance of protecting and maintaining biodiversity in natural ecosystems. These sessions provided valuable insight into how scientific understanding and innovative thinking can support sustainable development.
A highlight of the trip was the Nature Photography Competition, where students were encouraged to capture images that reflected the beauty and importance of the natural world. We are delighted to report that Lexing Z. won a prize for his outstanding photograph, an achievement that reflects both his creativity and his appreciation of nature.
The trip was an inspiring and enriching experience for all students involved. It provided an excellent opportunity to collaborate with peers from other international schools, deepen their understanding of sustainability, and reflect on how individual actions can contribute to protecting our planet. The students represented the school with enthusiasm and maturity, and they returned with many ideas about how sustainable practices can be promoted within our own community.
