On 11 June 2026, Epsom College Malaysia held its first Supercurricular Showcase, bringing together some of the school’s most curious and intellectually ambitious students. The event featured 40 presenters from Year 7 through to Year 12, each sharing the outcomes of independent research projects that explored complex questions extending well beyond the classroom curriculum.
The showcase provided students with a platform to demonstrate not only their academic knowledge, but also their ability to think critically, conduct research and communicate sophisticated ideas to a wider audience. Staff and fellow students were invited to engage with presentations that reflected months of dedication.
Big Questions from Young Minds
What was truly remarkable was the depth of our students’ engagement. Having spent six months developing their projects, they presented with a maturity that left many adults in awe. They did not shy away from complexity, tackling real-world issues across economics, philosophy and cutting-edge biotechnology, including:
- How does Mixue make high profits while selling at low prices?
- Why do people feel the need to compare themselves?
- Should AI be granted autonomy in diagnosing genetic disorders and designing CRISPR-Cas9 therapies?
- Are you ever truly free to make decisions?
- When borders protect criminals, who has the right to punish?
Beyond Academics
As the event concluded, it was evident that the Supercurricular Showcase had achieved far more than simply displaying completed projects. It celebrated a culture of curiosity, resilience and academic exploration, while providing students with valuable opportunities to develop skills that will serve them well in higher education and beyond.
