Epsom Mandarin Debate Team Named Negeri Sembilan State Runner-Up

The Epsom Mandarin Debate Team was awarded Runner-up (State Champions, 2nd Place) in the 28th Malaysia Secondary Schools Mandarin Debate Competition (Negeri Sembilan). The competition took place last weekend and featured 10 teams from private Chinese independent schools and government schools across the state. As the state runners-up, our team now has the opportunity to represent Negeri Sembilan at the National Competition.

Our debaters are:

Zeyi Z., Year 11, Forest

Zhenkai X., Year 9, Carr

Zhuoming Y., Year 10, Wilson

Yiran T., Year 9, Wells

Chengyang W., Year 9, Holman

What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that the students prepared for the competition while managing their final examinations, with Zeyi Z. simultaneously sitting his IGCSE examinations.

We did not expect to reach the final round and therefore had just one hour to prepare for the final debate. Despite this challenge, the team delivered an outstanding performance and narrowly missed the championship by a single judge’s vote after three rounds of voting.

Zeyi Z. and Zhenkai X. were both nominated as Best Debaters of the Match in every match throughout the competition.

Our debaters demonstrated exceptional discipline, teamwork, critical thinking and debating skills. Their commitment and determination were truly commendable, and they represented Epsom with pride and distinction.

Thank you to the Boarding House team for their continued support. Their encouragement and flexibility have been greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to the team on this outstanding achievement.
