The Chemistry Society CCA provides students with an exciting opportunity to explore Science beyond the traditional classroom and develop a deeper appreciation of Chemistry through practical, creative and collaborative activities. Inspired by activities and ideas featured in the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Education and Chemistry newsletters, the Society encourages students to see how Chemistry connects to everyday life.
Last week, students enjoyed a hands-on slime-making activity, investigating the fascinating chemistry behind polymers and cross-linking. As they mixed the ingredients and observed changes in texture and consistency, students were able to connect theoretical concepts with a fun and memorable practical experience. The activity also encouraged students to make predictions, discuss observations, troubleshoot problems and explain the scientific principles behind what they were seeing.
Importantly, the Chemistry Society is not simply about performing experiments. Activities are designed to develop all-round academic enrichment, including scientific curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, teamwork and creativity. Students are encouraged to ask questions, challenge ideas and share their scientific reasoning with their peers.
Through regular RSC-inspired activities, debates, challenges and practical investigations, the Chemistry Society helps students develop confidence as young scientists while discovering that Chemistry is both intellectually stimulating and relevant to the world around them.
