On 8 May, we were delighted to welcome staff from Aurelius Hospital to deliver engaging educational experiences for both our Year 13 and Early Years students. From essential first aid training to hands-on exploration of emergency services, the visit supported learning beyond the classroom and encouraged students to think about important life skills and future careers.
For our Year 13 students, the first aid workshop formed part of their preparation for university and life beyond Epsom College Malaysia. The session provided students with valuable knowledge and practical awareness of basic first aid, helping them feel more confident and prepared for independent living. We are also delighted that Lisa M. has written a wonderful article in this edition of Epsom Spotlight, reflecting further on the experience and sharing her perspective on the importance of learning these essential skills.
In addition to the Year 13 workshop, Aurelius Hospital kindly brought an ambulance onto campus for a special presentation with our Early Years students. As part of their learning about community careers this year, the visit provided an exciting opportunity for the children to explore important professions in a hands-on and memorable way.
The presentation sparked great excitement and curiosity, with many students discussing careers such as ambulance nurses and doctors afterwards. Students learned about key ambulance equipment, including stretchers, sirens and oxygen tanks, as well as the importance of calling 999 in an emergency. One particular highlight was the chance to speak through the ambulance loudspeaker, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. A parent later shared that his daughter enjoyed the visit so much that she talked about it for days afterwards.
A huge thank you to Aurelius Hospital for delivering such engaging and memorable presentations for our students. Experiences like these enrich learning, inspire curiosity and help students make meaningful connections between school and the wider world. We would also like to thank Mr Garnett for the excellent idea to include this as part of the PSHE programme.
