A Look Back at the Academic Year

If you’d told me a year ago that I’d be Head of Epsom College Malaysia, I’m not sure I would have believed you. It’s been an extraordinary journey, and it’s been a real privilege to be part of such a vibrant and inspiring school community.

As we look back on the past year, there is so much to celebrate. In just the last two weeks alone, we’ve had a taste of what makes Epsom so special: the Year 6 Transition events, the Moving Up Ceremony, the Prep Concert, two Sports Days, and our Music Festival—each one showcasing the spirit, talent, and sense of togetherness that defines us.

In the Prep School, students have amazed us with their reading achievements—eight word millionaires, including Jiyun C. Year 6 who read over three million words. Our mathematicians competed in national and international challenges, and our young athletes triumphed at the KTJ Games.

STEAM Week sparked innovation, and Book Week brought characters to life—including Mrs Rouson as Lady Macbeth! Students also raised over RM13,000 for a local orphanage during the Resilience Run Rally—an incredible act of kindness and community.

In the Senior School, we hosted our first AI FOBISIA Leadership Conference, saw success in World Scholar’s Cup and a wide range of maths competitions, and celebrated the completion of adventurous Duke of Edinburgh journeys. Pastoral initiatives like Wellness Wednesday and events like Kindness Week and Culture Week brought colour and connection to our days.

Our boarders enjoyed more trips than ever—from water parks to weekend outings—and we’re planning even more in the year ahead. And for the first time ever, Holman House led the charge in the House Competition—can they finish the job?

Finally, to our Year 13 students—we are proud of your hard work and ambition. Offers from Cambridge University, University College London (UCL), Brown University, The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and many more reflect your dedication and the support around you.

This year has reminded us of what we can achieve when we come together as a school community. Thank you to all our students, staff, and families for making 2024 such a memorable year.

Have a restful break—and here’s to an even brighter year ahead.

Mrs Avis Parker
Head of School
