A Fond Farewell to Our Year 9 Carr Boys

Three years ago, we began a cherished tradition at Carr House: a farewell lunch to honour our Year 9 students as they prepare to move on to their senior houses. What started as a simple send-off has grown into a heartfelt celebration, a time to reflect, reminisce, and create lasting memories together.

On 1st June, our Year 9 Carr students and staff gathered at Tune Hotel KLIA for a delightful buffet lunch featuring pizza, pasta, soup, and fresh fruit. The boys arrived looking exceptionally smart in their smart-casual attire, confident, composed, and every bit ready for the next chapter.

Following the meal, we heard thoughtful speeches from myself, Joshua G. (Head of Carr 2024/2025), and Adam L. (Academic Prefect 2024/2025). Each speaker shared warm reflections and well-wishes, capturing the spirit of the occasion.

To celebrate the unique personalities that have made Carr House so special, Mrs Masako and I presented a series of light-hearted awards. From the humorous to the heartwarming, each award recognised the distinctive charm and contribution of every student. Laughter echoed through the room during our lucky draw segment, where every boy chose a gift, some wonderful, some downright hilarious!

This gathering was more than just a farewell. It was a final moment of unity as Carr boys, before they step into new adventures in their senior houses: Propert, Forest, and Granville. Though they may no longer share the same house, the bond they’ve built as Carr boys will remain.

In my speech, I reminded them: “Once a Carr boy, always a Carr boy.” No matter where their journey takes them, Carr House will always be a part of who they are, and they’re always welcome back. They are to always “remember their roots”.

We wish them all the best as they move forward. Their presence has left a lasting legacy at Carr, and we know they’ll continue to shine in their senior houses.
