Being an Admissions Prefect means being one of the first faces that prospective students and families associate with Epsom. Working closely with the Marketing and Admissions Team, we have the opportunity to share what makes Epsom special from a student’s perspective. Most importantly, we hope that every interaction leaves someone feeling a little more confident and excited about becoming part of our community.
One of our main responsibilities is organising and supporting Open Days, where we welcome prospective families, lead school tours and assist them throughout their visit. However, our role extends beyond simply showing visitors the facilities. As students ourselves, we are able to share the little things that cannot always be found in a prospectus: our personal experiences, favourite memories and what everyday life at Epsom is truly like. We hope these conversations allow prospective students to picture themselves walking these same corridors and creating their lasting memories here one day.
Our responsibilities continue as new students begin their journey at Epsom. During Orientation and Induction Days, we help them navigate an unfamiliar environment, meet new people and adjust to their new routines. We know that entering a new school can feel overwhelming, especially when surrounded by unfamiliar faces. Sometimes, even a simple conversation or seeing someone you recognise can make those first few days feel much less daunting.
This sense of support continues through initiatives such as our student buddy programme. By connecting new students with current students, we hope to give them someone they can approach for advice, questions or simply a friendly conversation. For us, creating that connection is what transforms being welcomed into feeling like you truly belong.
Perhaps the most rewarding part of being an Admissions Prefect is knowing that a small interaction can become part of someone’s first memory of Epsom. The nervous student we once welcomed through the doors may eventually be the person welcoming someone else. Through each tour, conversation and connection, we hope to help make Epsom more than just a school, but a home away from home.
