The start of a new academic year always brings a renewed sense of energy to Granville House, and this week has been no exception. With new faces joining our community alongside returning Granvillians, the House has quickly settled into a positive and supportive rhythm. Our returning students have been fantastic in welcoming those new to Granville, helping them settle in and ensuring that from the very beginning, everyone feels part of the House.
This spirit of character and service was exemplified by Sean Z., who was named our first Granvillian of the Week. Sean dedicated a significant amount of his summer to volunteer charity work with Yayasan Chow Kit, demonstrating the values of compassion, service and responsibility that we hope all Granvillians carry with them beyond Epsom.
Our student leaders have also played an important role in setting the tone for the year ahead. Head Leadership students Hong T., Zhe T. and Henry Z. helped welcome new students and their families to Granville, ensuring they felt comfortable, informed and prepared for the year ahead. Meanwhile, House Champions Joshua G. and Yoshitaro T. have stepped confidently into their leadership roles, helping organise their respective year groups and prepare teams for the first House competitions of the year.
The Granville staff team has welcomed some new faces of its own. Our new Graduate Assistants, George and Forbes, alongside our new Resident Tutor, Mugilan Rajendran, have already made an early impact on life in the House. Their enthusiasm and willingness to get involved have helped contribute to the positive atmosphere during a busy opening week, and we look forward to seeing the relationships they build with the boys throughout the year.
There is already plenty for the boys to look forward to, with both Inter and Senior Granvillians preparing for Inter-House Football, Cross Country and the Quiz this week. The energy around the House has been excellent, with plenty of friendly competition and excitement as teams come together. These events provide an early opportunity for our students to represent Granville, support one another and strengthen the friendships and sense of brotherhood that make House life so special.
We also celebrated the achievements of our graduating Year 13 Granvillians following the release of their A-Level results. Collectively, Granville students achieved an outstanding 7 A*, 12 A and 14 B grades. We are incredibly proud of what they have accomplished and the example they have set for the younger members of the House.
It has been an energetic and encouraging first week, and already the character of Granville is shining through. Whether welcoming a new student, representing the House, serving the wider community or simply supporting a friend, it is these everyday contributions that continue to build the friendship, character and brotherhood at the heart of Granville House.
