As our Year 10 students complete their end-of-year examinations, it is important to recognise the significance of this moment in their educational journey. These examinations are far more than a series of assessments; they represent a crucial checkpoint on the road towards IGCSE success.
Throughout the examination period, I have been impressed by the maturity, resilience and determination demonstrated by many of our students. Success is not measured solely by grades. It is reflected in the commitment shown when preparing for assessments, the discipline required to revise consistently, and the courage needed to persevere when faced with challenging questions and difficult subjects.
At Epsom, we set exceptionally high expectations because we believe our students are capable of achieving exceptional outcomes. The transition from Year 10 into Year 11 is one of the most important stages of secondary education. The habits developed now will determine the success students experience next year, when the demands of the full IGCSE programme intensify.
Year 11 will undoubtedly present new obstacles. There will be moments of pressure, setbacks and challenges that test both academic ability and character. However, resilience is not built when things are easy; it is forged when individuals face difficulties and choose to continue moving forward. The examinations our students have just completed have provided valuable experience in managing these pressures and have prepared them for the next stage of their journey.
As a school, we are proud of what our Year 10 students have achieved so far. They have shown that they can approach their studies with seriousness and purpose. They have demonstrated growth, perseverance and a willingness to embrace challenges. These qualities will serve them well as they enter their final year before their IGCSE examinations.
While there is much to celebrate, there is also important work ahead. The most successful students will use this experience to reflect honestly on their performance, identify areas for improvement and return in Year 11 with renewed focus and determination. Excellence is not achieved through talent alone; it is the result of consistent effort, disciplined preparation and an unwavering commitment to improvement.
To our Year 10 students, I offer my congratulations. You have reached an important milestone and should be proud of the effort you have invested. At the same time, remember that this is not the finish line. It is the foundation upon which your Year 11 success will be built.
The road ahead will be challenging, but I have every confidence that you possess the resilience, character and determination to overcome whatever obstacles lie before you. Continue to work hard, continue to strive for excellence, and continue to believe in your ability to succeed.
