Epsom College Malaysia has reached a significant milestone by becoming the first non-UK school to achieve AI in Education Explorer certification. This achievement reflects our commitment to innovation, the responsible use of technology, and preparing students for the future. It also highlights the strong partnership between Epsom College Malaysia and Epsom College UK as we work together to embrace the opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence.
The AI in Education Explorer certification recognises schools that demonstrate a strategic and responsible approach to integrating artificial intelligence into teaching, learning and school operations. By achieving this status, Epsom College Malaysia joins Epsom College UK in leading the way in educational innovation and becoming part of a growing international community committed to effective AI adoption.
The process allowed us to celebrate many of the innovative ways that AI is being used at Epsom. In the classroom, AI is being used to enhance teaching and learning. Examples of this include designing ‘Futuristic Food Themed Vehicles’ in EAL lessons and the use of NotebookLM to create video summaries, study partners and quizzes across GCSE and A-Level subjects. Our Year 7 and 8 students are undertaking an Environment drop-down day, during which they will use AI as a tool to help create resources such as ‘Ocean Cleanup’, a fully playable Python Pygame simulation built from a blank window through debris spawning, collision detection and a complete scoring system.
The Explorer certification process also provided an opportunity to review and strengthen our existing practices. We refined our strategic roadmap for AI integration, evaluated current policies and identified areas for further development. Most importantly, the process reinforced our commitment to preparing students with the knowledge, skills and critical thinking needed to thrive in an AI-enabled world. We see this regularly at Epsom throughout all year groups, from embedding AI skills into the Prep School curriculum to addressing AI bias, ethical use and safeguarding in Senior School PSHE lessons. As technology continues to evolve, we are determined to ensure that our students are equipped to use AI responsibly, creatively and confidently.
Becoming the first international school to achieve AI in Education Explorer certification is an important achievement for Epsom. It reflects our dedication to excellence, innovation and future-focused learning. While we are proud of this recognition, we view it as another step in our ongoing journey to empower students and lead responsibly in an increasingly AI-driven world.
