Wilson House Highlights

A great deal has happened in the 16 months since Wilson House first opened: new staff, new students, and a growing range of opportunities. With the addition of two new boarding houses and an expanding community, the question is often asked: “Which is the best House?” While every house offers something special, and all of our Residential Teams provide fantastic pastoral care, this has prompted an important reflection: “Why should students want to be in Wilson House?”

House Spirit

At the heart of Wilson House is a strong commitment to our core values of Respect, Integrity and Resilience. These are not just words, but qualities we see reflected in the everyday actions of our students. When asked to describe Wilson, our incoming Head of House, Cheryl A., shared that it is “warm, welcoming and kind, and everyone is always ready to support each other”, a clear reflection of the respect shown within the House.

This sense of integrity is evident in how students treat one another with honesty and fairness, both in daily life and during whole-school events. Students have the confidence to admit and learn from their mistakes, encouraging them to grow into well-rounded pupils. Meanwhile, resilience is a defining characteristic across all year groups. As one of our younger students, Xinyi H., explained, “I love being in Wilson because we’re all so resilient… even when we lose a house competition, we’re not afraid to participate in another one.”

House Competition

As Xinyi H. suggested, we have faced some challenges in House Competitions this year. In our first year of House Competition, we have truly embraced our role as the underdog, and there is a real sense of pride in how hard every point has been earned. Time and again, the girls have shown resilience, often finishing in a frustrating, but motivating, second place. Rather than discouraging us, this has only strengthened our resolve and brought the House closer together. It is this attitude that defines Wilson in competition.

We have also had some incredible standout performances this term:

  • Sonia J. and Georgina D. winning the Aquathon for Juniors and Seniors
  • Yuting Z. playing up a year group in badminton
  • Hyoseo K., Celine M., Sonia J., and Elizabeth A. beating Rosebery on the line in the swimming medley
  • Anya F. and Mona S. as our powerhouse shooters in netball

The girls in Wilson are prepared to keep building as a team, and I am issuing a warning to the other Houses for the next academic year, watch out for Wilson!

House Support

Behind every success in Wilson House is the unwavering dedication of the boarding team. While much of the spotlight falls on student achievements, our incredible team of Ms Indah, Ms Sooi, Ms Aini, Ms Linda, Miss Josie and Miss Lily, along with the wider Academic Team, consistently model and nurture the values that define Wilson. Through their daily care, encouragement and quiet guidance, they instil a strong sense of house spirit in everything they do. From celebrating successes to supporting students through challenges, their impact is felt in every corner of the House, shaping an environment where students feel supported, valued and proud to belong.

To conclude, I also asked members of staff why students should want to be part of Wilson. Ms Sooi shared, “Wilson has awesome house staff and tutors, and super adorable, lovable and super-duper fabulous girls.” While perhaps not the most formal description, it genuinely reflects the warmth and affection our staff have for the House. With this in mind, there are countless reasons why students are proud to call Wilson House their home, and why others should want to be part of it.
