What Do We Do in Medical Review Society?
The Medical Review Society (MRS) is a student-led group for those interested in medicine, healthcare and the sciences. The Society offers opportunities for students to explore medical topics beyond the classroom through presentations, outreach projects, journal writing and collaborative activities. MRS aims to develop students’ research skills, communication skills and understanding of real-world healthcare issues, while fostering a supportive community of aspiring medical professionals.
Presentations
All the members are expected to deliver at least one presentation per term. Up to two members per presentation would be ideal, and topics of presentation could be decided by the members as long as it is related to healthcare and medical fields.
Outreach programmes
Not only within the school, MRS would like to go further! We are planning on volunteering events that could contribute to help the charities/hospitals. This can include providing education for the children who lack the opportunities, supporting the patients who are fighting their diseases, or directly volunteering in care homes. This is a continued effort from previous years where we worked with orphan homes and local government hospitals. When funds are needed, we carry out events such as baking sales for donations.
Journal publishing
Based on the lead of Journal Department Lead, all the members would be given to participate in an MRS journal that will be published every half term. Members can research further in the issues that they are interested in and connect them with medical fields.
CCAs
CCAs can be held to give a heads up for the new members in order to introduce the new BODs, guide them to write their journals, and to help them organise their outreach proposal. During CCA members are also given a chance to explore a wide range of super-curricular activities like engaging with ethical debates and analysing medical research papers producing their own mini presentations or dissertations. All the members are recommended to join the MRS CCA.
