Wellbeing Prefects: Supporting Student Wellbeing Across the Epsom Community
As Wellbeing Prefects, our purpose is about far more than simply holding a title, but it is about creating a supportive school community of care, inclusivity, and respect. With our title, we ensure that every individual feels valued, safe, and empowered in the classroom as well as in the boarding houses.
We work closely with teachers and staff for events that have to do with wellbeing, such as Mental Health Week, as well as with the student council to get feedback and make improvements to our community.
Mental Health Week has been the most recent event we helped out with. The purpose of the Mental Health Week was to raise awareness about the importance of mental well-being and to encourage open conversations about mental health. During the week, several events were held. During tutor time, there were bullying bingo games and videos watched about the impact of bullying, as well as digital poster making. The goal for this was to engage students in a fun and interactive way while helping them learn to recognise different forms of bullying and positive behaviours. The colour run was also hosted as a fun way to end the week.
Furthermore, the purpose of our Student Council is to give students a voice in helping their school community and to encourage active participation in school life. It gives students a platform for them to share ideas, express concerns, and contribute to decisions that affect them. This year, our framework for the Student Council aims to develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
Overall, as well-being prefects, we are looking forward to bettering our school community to make it a safer and more inclusive space for students. We are also looking forward to many more events to be held in the near future!
