The Epsom Magazine Society: A Student Perspective

Looking for a summary of school events from a student’s point of view? Look no further. Here at Epsom, there’s never a dull moment. Whether it’s sports events or cultural festivities, the Epsom Magazine Society is dedicated to bringing these stories, moments, and highlights together, which make our school such a special place.

The Epsom Magazine Society is a student-run initiative striving to capture and celebrate life at Epsom. Our aim is to raise awareness of both school and global events each term, while providing a platform for students to express their unique ideas, perspectives, and talents. Through our magazine, we strive to inform, engage, and connect the wider school community.

Since becoming a member of the Epsom Magazine Society and slowly building my way up to the role of Chairperson, this society has always been one of the most rewarding parts of my time at Epsom. What I enjoy the most is seeing how an idea slowly comes to life and turns into a finished magazine through collaboration, creativity, and a lot of hard work. While my role involves overseeing the process and helping to make major decisions, the magazine is very much a team effort, and it would not be possible without the dedication and support of the incredible Board of Directors and society members, including Ria K. as Secretary, Tian F. and Cocomo W. as Lead Editors, and Callista L. as Arts and Social Media Director. Everyone’s talent, enthusiasm, and support has made the process not only easier but also a lot more enjoyable.

When each half term comes to a close, we start planning the next issue of the magazine. Usually beginning with a meeting with the BODs, we discuss which events best represent the half term, and encourage each of the members to pick an event they are interested in to contribute their perspectives. From there, it becomes a process of coordinating deadlines, editing content, designing the magazine templates, and refining each section to make the magazine whole. Although at times the process feels overwhelmingly demanding due to the short timeframe we have, it always feels very fulfilling to see the finished product and our hard work come together.

What makes the process feel so special is knowing that the magazine reflects school life as experienced by the students who actually live it every day. It’s not just a record of events, but a collection of the moments and memories of all the fun and hard work that has shaped our time here at Epsom, reminding us that school isn’t only about academics or extracurricular activities, but also the events and experiences happening around us.

I would like to thank everyone, whether in the society or not, who has helped make every magazine a reality. It has truly made my experience much more meaningful.
