Rosebery House Highlights

Food has a special ability to bring people together, especially in a community like Rosebery. The house is filled with girls of different ages and from many cultural backgrounds, and weekend cooking has become an important part of boarding life. Sitting down to eat is not only about enjoying food; it is a time to relax, talk and connect with others. Around the dining tables, friendships are formed and strengthened. A simple plate of food can start conversations between girls who might not normally connect. One student or staff member might share a favourite recipe from home, while another explains the traditions behind a special celebration meal. These small moments help everyone learn more about each other and develop respect for different cultures.

Food also provides comfort, especially for girls who live far from their families. Tasting a familiar dish can remind them of home and help them feel understood. When boarders cook or share snacks from their own cultures, they invite others into their world. Trying new flavours together encourages curiosity and open-mindedness.

We are so lucky in Rosebery to have this wonderful kitchen, as well as so many brilliant, budding chefs!

A huge thank you to all the girls who took part in the inter-house netball competition last week. It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, teamwork and Rosebery spirit on display. Every player gave her best, and the matches were played in a fantastic, competitive but friendly atmosphere.

I must admit, as Head of Netball at Epsom, I was quietly relieved by how well everyone performed. It might have been just a little awkward if the standard had been anything less than impressive! Thankfully, the skills, determination and energy shown on court made me very proud, and saved me from any professional embarrassment.

I would also like to say a big well done to all the talented mathematicians who were competing at the same time. Unfortunately, I was unable to come and support you in person, as I was busy umpiring the netball matches in a completely neutral and unbiased manner, of course. I have no doubt that your problem-solving abilities were just as impressive as the shooting and defending I witnessed on the netball courts.
