On Wednesday 10th December, the Prep Wellbeing Ambassadors and other Prep representatives visited Sekolah Kebangsaan Asli Bukit Cheding, to deliver donations, kindly provided by our generous Prep parents and teachers.
We were greeted with kind smiles and open arms by Mr Airil, the headteacher of this Orang Asli school, which serves the local Orang Asli community. Over 100 Orang Asli children are educated here in beautiful natural surroundings, surrounded by fruitful trees and expansive wilderness.
After an inspiring musical performance and sewang dance by their students, we were treated to a tour round the school. They make the best use of the space available, both inside and out, and have become leaders in technology use for all Orang Asli schools in Malaysia, by using handheld devices and smartboards. Around every corner, we were welcomed into class to share the learning experiences of the students from their Early Years and Special Education unit, all the way up to their eldest learners. Prep students even had a chance to see lunch being prepared, and were surprised to find out that they grew their own fish to eat and sell to their local community. A wonderfully self-sustaining initiative, supported by donations from NGOs and private companies.
Our tour ended with a chance for our Prep students to play sepak takraw and other games with the school’s friendly and fun loving children. This was a heart-warming moment and valuable experience to show that even though we might all be from different countries, places and cultures, there are more things that make us similar, than make us different.
The RM15,376 raised from the Resilience Run Rally will go a long way in supporting this wonderful school which educates their local community and offer their students the best possible chance of success in the future. The games, books, stationery, supplies and sports equipment, also donated by our kind Epsom parents and teachers, will help their school continue to be a joyful place to learn.
Thank you parents for all your dedicated support, and for giving our students a chance to give back to the wider community and see themselves as global citizens who are happy to serve the place we all call home, Malaysia.
