In Wilson, the term community relates to friendship, support, and shared responsibility. Living together encourages respect, trust, and a sense of belonging. It helps us grow socially and emotionally while creating a place that feels like home. But community doesn’t happen by accident—so how do we form a community in a new boarding house?
The first step was appointing a Head and Deputy Head of Wilson House.. These positions will provide leadership, support, and guidance for all boarders. These positions provide leadership, support, and guidance for all boarders. They help build a positive atmosphere, set a strong example, and ensure everyone feels included. Their roles are key in shaping a respectful, caring community where every student can feel safe and heard. Epsom is therefore delighted to announce the appointment of Mailyn L. as Head of Wilson House and Kayla C. as Deputy Head. Congratulations to both students on this well-deserved recognition.

To further strengthen the sense of connection within Wilson House, five smaller groups known as ‘Clubs’ were introduced. Each Club includes a mix of Day and Boarding students from Years 7 to 12. The Clubs promote mentorship, support for younger students, and friendly competition. Each week, we track merits, room checks, and house activities like quiz night to award points. At the end of the term, the highest-scoring Club is crowned our Club Champion and receives a prize.
As well as having a strong student community, we have excellent staff in Wilson. Comprising of our Matrons, residential staff, academic tutors and domestic staff, every member of our staff community makes a difference. They create a warm, welcoming environment where students feel safe, supported, and understood. When staff work well together, it builds a real sense of unity—one where everyone feels like they belong and can truly be themselves.
These may seem like small steps toward building community, but as a Boarding Team, we’re committed to doing whatever we can to ensure our students feel valued, safe, and connected. After four months of Wilson House, we’re proud of the progress made and excited to keep growing a vibrant, supportive boarding community.
