A Year of Growth and Change in Boarding at Epsom

It has been a busy and expansive year for boarding at Epsom. Boarding remains at the heart of our community, and we continue to strive to create a safe, supportive environment where students feel at home, build meaningful relationships, and develop strong connections with both peers and staff.
At Epsom, we understand that every child is unique. While routines and rules provide structure within our boarding houses, we take pride in celebrating the individuality of each student and encouraging them to grow in confidence and character.
One of the most exciting developments this year has been within girls’ boarding. With increasing numbers, we planned for and successfully launched a brand-new girls’ house, Wilson House. We welcomed Mrs Redwood-Loud to the boarding team, and under her leadership, Wilson House has quickly become a warm, welcoming, and vibrant space. Although Wilson is yet to compete in House competitions, we look forward to seeing the girls proudly represent their House colours, black and white, in the upcoming academic year. Watch out, Crawfurd and Rosebery!
The opening of Wilson House was part of a wider boarding development project on campus. The new boarding complex comprises four modern houses, three of which are now occupied by our girls’ Houses: Wilson, Crawfurd, and Rosebery. Transitioning to a new House is no small task, and we extend our thanks to students, boarding staff, and parents for their patience, resilience, and flexibility throughout the process. It is a testament to the Epsom spirit that these new Houses have so quickly become true homes.
One of the major benefits of the new development is the thoughtful quad-style design. The layout encourages greater interaction between Houses, and the spacious Common Rooms provide excellent venues for shared meals, socialising, House and inter-House activities.
Looking ahead to the 2025/26 academic year, we are excited to be exploring the opening of a third senior boys’ boarding house. Located in the former Crawfurd building, the new House will be named Forest House and will accommodate boys in Years 10–13.
As our school and boarding community continues to grow, the boarding team, led by Mr Long, remains committed to providing a nurturing environment that supports student wellbeing, social development, and academic success.
