A Day in the Life of an Admissions Prefect

Being an Admissions Prefect at Epsom is both exciting and rewarding. The role involves representing the school, assisting prospective students, and supporting the admissions team through welcoming visitors and leading campus tours. It also provides valuable insight into the behind-the-scenes operations, allowing us to appreciate the dedication of our staff in maintaining Epsom’s reputation as one of the leading international schools in Asia.

One of the key responsibilities of being an Admissions Prefect is conducting and organising school tours. During these tours, we showcase Epsom’s facilities to prospective students and provide parents with insights into everyday school life. This role not only represents the school but also helps us develop essential soft skills such as effective communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to critically think and respond confidently on the spot.

Another key responsibility we have is organising Open Days and Induction Days, where we welcome new students and their families to Epsom. Unlike regular tours, these events require us to coordinate multiple teams, manage several small group tours, and represent the Epsom community with professionalism at all times. Although things may not always go as planned, we learn to adapt quickly. For example, during a recent Induction Day, several bags went missing but were later found to have been delivered to the wrong houses. Situations like these teach us to stay calm under pressure, think on our feet, and work as a team to resolve issues efficiently while ensuring a positive experience for all visitors.

Beyond admissions-related duties, we also play an active role in supporting the prefect team with school events, leading personal projects aimed at creating long-term impacts, and assisting the student body to ensure the best possible experience for all Epsom students.

Picking the Admissions Prefect role has never been a regret, as it has helped us develop key soft skills such as communication, adaptability, teamwork, and problem-solving. From leading school tours to handling unexpected challenges during Open days, We’ve gained confidence and resilience. This experience has been incredibly rewarding, allowing me to contribute to the Epsom community while preparing me for future opportunities.

Most sincerely, Admissions Prefects.
