Epsom College, a leading UK independent school that is opening its doors in Malaysia in September 2013, today announced its sponsorship of the national Judo team to the upcoming SEA Games in Jakarta.
Sanctioned by the Olympic Council of Malaysia, the national team that will be benefiting from the RM9,000 sponsorship to represent Malaysia are Chew Li Ying and Agnes Thong (Women's Kata) and national coach Justin Khoo.
Presenting the cheque to Justin Khoo, Honorary Secretary of the Penang Judo Association and National Judo Coach was Mr. Gareth Eynon, Headmaster of New Press Advertisement.
At hand to witness the cheque presentation were YB Lydia Ong Kok Fui, Chairman of State Youth and Sports and Women, Family and Community Development Committee, Dato’ Ong Poh Eng, Deputy Chairman II of Penang Sports Council, Frederick Tan - Director of Majlis Sukan Negeri Pulau Pinang and Johnny Khoo Kay Chee, Vice President of Penang Judo Association.
According to national coach Justin Khoo, “This sponsorship gives our team, who are highly successful at a national level and who show great promise, a chance to pursue their dreams to compete on the international stage.”
Chew Li Ying is a four times national champion and SEA Judo Games 2009 silver medalist. This will be the second time she would be competing in the Kata event at the SEA Games.
20-year old Ooi Aik Tong is the current National Junior Champion and SUKMA Games Champion and one who has been earmarked to go far in Judo.

Judo is classified as one of the 10 martial arts sports being featured in the in the 26th SEA Games taking place in Jakarta and Palembang from November 11 to November 22, 2011.
