The theme for the House Drama competition this year was Myths and Legends. All six Houses performed extremely well and featured some excellent acting. The external Adjudicators were hugely impressed by all the entries but eventually awarded the overall House Drama Champion to Granville House for their atypical interpretation of Adam and Eve. Their setting of this well-known religious story was a modern, gender-neutral comedy in which the Garden of Eden was an exclusive club. The Granville boys had all the audience in the auditorium in stiches with their splendid performance.
Best performer was awarded to Avery from Carr House who played Sun Wukong (the Monkey King), the main character in the 16th century Chinese classical novel Journey to the West. The character was modernised in Carr House’s adaptation in which Avery played a spoilt brat.
The Best Set/Tech award went to Rosebery House for the girls’ stellar cinematography for Durga, a traditional Hindu story. Wilson House won the Best Scriptwriting for their use of a combination of freeze-framing, interrupted or split monologue and dance in Pandora's Box, a Greek mythology.
The pupils have set very high standards for themselves. Huge congratulations to all participants!
