House System in the Prep School
The House system is central to our pastoral care across Epsom College. Within their House, a pupil feels a secure sense of belonging, will have opportunities to work with older/younger children, compete and contribute to their House and its projects.
In addition to having a different Class Teacher each year, children join one of six Houses once they reach Year 1. Siblings are typically in the same House and all Y1-6 staff are in a House too. Our team of Heads of Houses develop an ongoing relationship with pupils in their House, which will last until the child leaves the Epsom. This system provides a second level of pastoral care, which is there for the long-term.
Children develop strong loyalty to their Houses and this encourages team spirit and mutual interdependence. There are various inter-House competitions and everyone takes them extremely seriously!

House Points are awarded to Pre-Prep and Prep pupils for academic achievement and progress. They are immediate rewards and are recorded individually by pupils on charts in each classroom. These, in turn, are collected on a weekly basis by eight Year 6 pupils who have been selected by the student body to be House Captains(HCs). The weekly Prep School House Point totals are then announced on the House displays are updated accordingly.
The HCs organise and motivate the members of Houses for events throughout the year. House meetings take place each term to discuss teams, strategy and have some fun.The Prep School House system is closely tied in with the rest of the College through whole college competitions and activities, as well as meetings between the Senior House Captains and the Prep School House Captains.
On earning 25 House Points individual pupils are awarded a Bronze Certificate at an Assembly, 50 HPs equals a silver, 100 HPs is Gold, and 200 HPs is Platinum. Most pupils earn a Gold each term.
