Mr Stephen McElhinney

Mr Stephen McElhinney is excited to take on the leadership of Epsom Prep School this year. He aims to embed the seven foundations of positive learning across the school’s curriculum. The foundations of joy and connection are the focus for this school year. Stephen wishes to develop collaborative learning and increase parental involvement in the Prep School.
 
Stephen brings a strong understanding of international education to the role having previously taught in Romania, Kazakhstan, Taiwan, as well as the UK. Having already graduated with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from the University of Kent and a PGCE Primary from the University of Manchester, he now looks forward to commencing a Master’s in Educational Leadership in the new future.
 
Stephen joined Epsom College in Malaysia with his wife, a Mandarin teacher. In his spare time, Stephen enjoys playing chess and football.

Teacher for Kingfishers

Mr Chris Lapping joined Epsom College in Malaysia (ECiM) as the Year 6 teacher. Graduating from the University of Durham, Chris holds a BA (hons) degree in Primary Education. Prior to joining Epsom, Chris held the post of Assistant Headteacher in a school in the North East of England where he taught across Key Stage 2, with responsibility for assessment.
 
Chris believes that happy children make for successful learners and aims to create a supportive, friendly environment where they feel empowered and safe to take risks to challenge themselves (so they can be the best they can be, both in and out of the classroom). Equipping children with the confidence, skills and thirst for knowledge for a life-long love of learning, Chris aims to help the children transition smoothly into the senior school.  
 
Outside of the classroom, Chris is a keen snowboarder however, doesn’t expect to find too much snow in Malaysia! Instead, he enjoys broadening his horizons with the many sports that Epsom has to offer. He is also hopeful to one day find a ‘BodyPump’ class here in Malaysia!
 
This is Chris’s first international post and he loves the many exciting travel and cultural opportunities that South East Asia has to offer, especially the food!

Prep PE & IELP

Ms Cassandra Sealy
Ms Cassandra Sealy

Ms Cassandra Sealy joined Epsom College in Malaysia (ECIM) from London, England having taught in various educational roles in England for 6 years. She is the Head of Physical Education and an Intensive English Language Programme tutor in the Prep School. She has a BSc Hons. in Sports Coaching and a PGCE in Primary Education and is currently completing her Masters in Education from St Marys' University, London.

Cassandra has worked with children in Canada, USA, Namibia, Zimbabwe, China and Thailand teaching English and outdoor sports. Originally from South-Africa, she worked in education centres in African game reserves training the next generation to take care of their wildlife. Cassandra particularly promotes a Growth Mindset in the children she teaches, allowing them to learn to believe in their success through hard work, learning and training to accomplish their goals.

Cassandra takes part in many outdoor, sporting and travelling opportunities in Malaysia and enjoys learning about the extensive fauna and flora in this country.

Prep EAL

Ms Devinii Karun
Ms Devinii Karun

Ms Devinii Karun joined Epsom College in Malaysia (ECiM) in 2017 as a teaching assistant. She started off her career at Fairview International School as a Grade 5 teacher. She then joined the Cambridge English Assessment Centre and prepared students to sit for English Cambridge checkpoint examinations. She graduated with a B.Ed in Teaching English as a Second Language in a local university and has experience teaching EAL in a variety of settings.
 
Miss Devinii looks forward to teach English as an Additional Language (EAL) to KS2 children, as well as providing Intensive English Language Provision (IELP) sessions in the Prep School. For Ms Devinii, when it comes to helping students succeed, she believes that a positive attitude is key to building confidence and achieving academic goals.
 
Throughout her career, she had been actively involved in training local school students with various English theaters and drama as a part of their English learning.

Learning Support Assistant

Ms Myrra Manokaran

Ms Myrra Manokaran joined Epsom College in Malaysia (ECiM) in 2017 as a teaching assistant. Her background and interest in special education led her to becoming the Learning Support Assistant full-time. She has a Diploma of Studies and a Professional Diploma in Special Education.

Myrra looks forward to working closely with Laura Tanna (SENCo) and class teachers in order to provide the most suitable support required by children in Epsom Prep School.

Myrra enjoys providing cross-curricular activities with a focus on Malaysian culture such as Malaysian dance and batik.

Teacher for Chitchats

Ms Ubanisha Balasubramaniam (Nisha) joined Epsom College from Fairview International School in Kuala Lumpur.

Nisha has a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Roehampton, London and is currently undergoing her Masters in Early Childhood Education. She has experience in teaching Nursery (EYFS) through Year 4 and has specialised in teaching the Malay Language and Physical Education.

Nisha strongly holds her believe that every child should learn from their own interest and pace. Learning through play is the best way to allow children to explore and develop themselves to meet their learning goals. She strives to make a difference to her students’ lives.

Mr Jeffrey Babasa

Teaching Assistant

Jeff has found Epsom College in Malaysia tobe the most enjoyable job he has experienced so far.Being part of such a huge school he has have been involved in diverse projects and obtained skills that he never imagined he would be lucky enough to do.

Presently, Jeff is a teaching assistant to both Year 5 and year 6 in the Prep School, working with staff from numerous different nationalities, helping them in a variety of ways. This has been a lot of fun and challenging at times.Jeff finds the Key Stage 1 and 2 children amazing, as they can work independently and push themselves to the edge of their learning skills.

Known as Mr Jeff, Jeff has been at ECiM for 4 years, since the school opened. He started as a matron in Granville House for one year. Life in Granville during the day was busy with domestic duties but rather lonely without the students. Jeff looked forward to the afternoons when the students returned to the house from their classes, and the whole house would transform into a loud and lively environment.

Jeff coachees basketball from Key Stage 2 to the under 11s team and teacsh Martial arts, Ki Aikido, across all age groups. Jeff loves photograph. He finds life in ECiM fascinating; we have extraordinarily teaching staff, admin staff and catering staff he believeswho all work together to grow ECiM more and more each year.

Ms Rabiatul Adawiyah binti Othman

Teaching Assistant

Ms Rabiatul Adawiyah binti Othman joined Epsom College in Malaysia (ECiM) from Sunway International School, Malaysia where she had been a librarian for 2 years and 6 months. Rabiatul has a degree in Science Library and Information Management from Universiti Teknologi Mara and a Master of Science in Knowledge Management from Universiti Teknologi Mara.

Rabiatul has been interested in working in academia since she was 19 when she became a replacement teacher in one of the government school in Malaysia. She become more interested in teaching whilst working as a Librarian where she led a Literacy Class for the library. Rabiatul is very excited to help students out in any areas that she can.

Rabiatul lives with her family in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. She is a fan of Korean Drama and she loves cats so much that she has 5 cats in her house.

Year 1

Early Years Coordinator, Teacher for Robins

Mrs Leona Squires joined Epsom College from Shrewsbury International School in Bangkok. After working as an SEN/EAL teacher in the Prep School she is now the Year 1 class teacher and also oversees the Early Years Foundation Stage.
 
Leona has a degree in Business Administration and a GDTO (Graduate Diploma in Teaching) from the University of Southern Queensland. She has experience in teaching Nursery through Year 6 and has in the past specialised in teaching ICT.
 
Before entering the teaching profession Leona worked for an online learning company producing ICT-based learning materials for adults. During her time in Thailand Leona worked at Shrewsbury International School before taking time out to take care of her own children, Finley and Maybelle.
 
Leona believes passionately in allowing young learners to develop at their own pace in an environment that is adapted to meet their individual needs.

Ms Kiran Vijayakumar

Lead TA of ASC

Ms Kiran Vijayakumaran joins Epsom College in Malaysia (ECiM) from Fairview International School where she was a Homeroom Teacher in the Early Years department. She completed a B.A. in Education and Foundation degree of Arts in supporting Learning and teaching from Roehampton University.

Kiran looks forward to working at ECiM as the teaching assistant in Year 1. Her experience in Early Years, as well as her desire to continually develop professionally will help her settle quickly into Epsom life.

Kiran will be the lead TA of the After School Care that is provided from 16:00 to 18:00 every day.

Year 2

Teacher for Sparrows, English Coordinator
Ms Hollie Slater joined ECiM as the Year 2 class teacher from a school in Saigon where she taught Grade 1 (equivalent to Year 2 in the UK). She held responsibilities as the literacy curriculum lead and has written educational articles for a national magazine in Vietnam. Prior to this, Hollie has taught at schools in Kent, UK.
 
Hollie is a graduate of the University of Southampton with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and The University of Greenwich with a PGCE. Hollie has experience catering for children with a wide array of needs (EAL & SEN). 
 
Hollie spent a year travelling the world in 2010-2011. Hollie’s partner is Mr Tom Rudduck, who is also a teacher in the Prep School.

Teaching Assistant

Ms Adriana Falisha joined Epsom in 2015. She graduated from International Islamic University in Malaysia. Adriana has a degree in Nursing. She worked as a school nurse before she joined the Prep School as Teaching Assistant.

Adriana loves to read books and watch movies during her free time.

Teacher for Mynahs, Well-being Coordinator

Mr Tom Rudduck joined ECiM as a Teacher in the Prep School. He comes to us from an international school in Saigon where he was a Year 5 teacher and Key Stage 2 coordinator (Science lead).
 
Prior to moving into the international school sector, Tom taught at schools in Kent and Essex, UK. He also has experience catering for children with a wide array of needs (EAL & SEN). 
 
Tom is a graduate of the University of Southampton. UK.
 
Tom spent a year travelling the world in 2010-2011. He has been a swimming and badminton coach and his interests focus on sport, music and photography.
Tom’s partner is Ms Hollie Slater, who will also be teaching in the Prep School.

Teaching Assistant

Ms Renuga Parameswary joined Epsom College in Malaysia (ECiM) in 2018 as a KS1 teaching assistant having worked as a trainee teacher previously. The knowledge and skills gained during her B.Ed. Hons. in Teaching English as a Second Language have allowed her to quickly settle into life at ECiM.

Renuga has a clear love of working with children and has been a positive addition to the Prep team. She looks forward to working in KS2 this year.

Year 4

Teacher for Herons, SENCo

Laura Tanna entered into teaching after completing her PGCE in Primary Education in Bristol.  Prior to this she undertook a Degree in Sport and Physical Education at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. She has taught across a range of Primary year groups during her career, as well undertaking curriculum leader responsibility for a number of subjects. Laura moved over to Malaysia in 2014, when the school opened, and started teaching at the school in April 2016. Laura is a qualified SENCO and holds the National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordination.

As Special Educational Needs Coordinator, Laura supports an inclusive approach to learning and encourages, where possible, for pupils to be supported within the classroom. She works closely with class teachers to ensure this can happen, so that all pupils, whatever their starting point, are encouraged, supported and challenged.

 

Laura loves travelling and is a keen sportswoman who will try her hand and most things. Although her main loves are hockey and running; she has been branching out into open water swimming, duathlons and triathlons. She is also a qualified Sports Massage Therapist and was part of the international recovery team at the Athens Olympics in 2004.  Laura has completed 8 marathons to date, and is keen to add to that tally. She lives on the College campus with her husband and two young children.

Ms Tishalani Puvanasan joins Epsom College in Malaysia (ECiM) as a KS2 teaching assistant having previously been a Homeroom Teacher at Fairview International School. She has a Bachelor’s and Diploma of Education and looks forward to applying her knowledge and experience within her new role.

Tishalani will be assisting Ms Kiran Vijayakumaran in the provision of the After School Care, which will take place daily between 16:00 to 18:00.

Year 5

Mr Chris Lapping joined Epsom College in Malaysia (ECiM) in 2016 and is the current Year 5 teacher and Deputy Head of Prep School. Graduating from Durham University, Chris holds a First-Class Honours Degree in Primary Education. Prior to joining Epsom, Chris held the post of Assistant Headteacher across a successful academy trust in the North East of England. He has a particular interest in assessment and is currently undertaking his National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership.

Chris firmly believes that happy children make for successful learners and aims to create a supportive, friendly environment where they feel empowered and safe to take risks to challenge themselves so they can be the best they can be, both in and out of the classroom.

When he is not in the classroom, Chris enjoys travelling extensively, taking in the many sights, sounds (and food!) that living in South East Asia has to offer.

Year 6

Teacher for Orioles, Maths Coordinator, Asst. Housemistress of Wilson House

Miss Lauren Maskell joined Epsom College in Malaysia (ECiM) from London, England having worked in a variety of educational settings. She has a BA (Hons) degree in Politics and Social Policy from the University of York and a PGCE in General Primary from Homerton College, University of Cambridge. Prior to her appointment, Lauren has worked in both the state and independent sector. Within the boarding community in pastoral roles, she has worked at Headington School, Oxford and Stowe School, Buckingham.

Now in her second year at ECiM, Lauren continues her role as Maths Coordinator and looks forward to teaching Year 6. She joins Wilson House as the Assistant Housemistress this year.

In her spare time, Lauren is an avid theatre goer and live music fan. She has a passion for travel and food. She continues to enjoy immersing herself in the local culture and exploring all possible travel opportunities that this part of the world offers!

Norizzati Abdullah

Teaching Assistant

Norizzati Abdullah recently joined Epsom College in Malaysia (ECiM) as the Teaching Assistant for Year 6. The majority of her previous experience lies in Early Childhood education, so she looks forward to the challenges that her new role will bring.

Norizzati completed a Bachelor’s degree in Human Sciences with a major in English Language and Literature from the International Islamic University, Malaysia.

When she has some free time on her hands, she enjoys reading fiction and about personal growth, watching movies and baking cookies.
